Roof top tents!

Hey guys,
Over the years I’ve had a few hilux 98. I ve had a roof top tent mounted above the Ute tray with custom built legs that raise the tent to slightly above roof level. Perfect for getting stuff out from Ute tray and perfect for keeping wind drag to a minimum and being able to just squeeze into car parks etc! The time has come to purchase a newer one! So my question is... Does anybody know if this kind of setup would suit the newer models eg rugged x, rougue etc? As the sports bars seem to extend quite a way back and are not removable. Or I might have to stick w a SR5 and remove the bars completely to able to achieve the same setup?!!
Any knowledge from members would be appreciated!
