Got two vehicles, both manual.
One 4wd
One 2wd
Considering an auto for the next one. I would be interested in a discussion of pros and cons manual vs auto.

Auto
First one in many years. Just got tired of flipping gears in traffic.
I think manuals are on the way out, driven mostly by all the "New Safety Tech" in cars , plus the young tend to do their driving test in autos so are only licensed for autos.

I got my licence (red Ps, NSW) in an auto. As soon as i hit my green Ps, it was manual all the way. Always had manuals growing up, was just easier to get my auto licence first when i moved to NSW from QLD.

Hate driving autos now. Will drive a manual until i absolutely have to change.

Always driven manuals. currently;
1 car Manual
1 4X4 Manual
Would consider auto for next 4X4, particularly if Toyota continue overgearing their Hiluxs and preventing 2 low.

Always had manuals until I got smart, now I wouldn't own one especially for towing. Currently own:

4 autos (2011 SR5 V6, 2012 Lexus RX350, 1968 HK V8 GTS and 1974 HJ 5.0L Premier sedan).
2 manual (1968 HK GTS327 and 2012 Suzuki DR650).
1 hydrostatic (Bobcat 743B).

Manual for me.

While I see the benefits of an auto, and especially on long days in traffic I can see the appeal. But I just love driving a manual too much to own an auto until I absolutely have to.

I get the appeal of a manual with a good engine (like the 427 I’m putting in my GTS327) but I don’t get it on an underpowered engine like a sub 4.0L diesel. I must admit the manual D4D drives far nicer than a manual Ranger for example though, but a manual V6 Hilux is awful compared to an auto.

Another vote for manuals.

If I was a city dweller I might consider an auto. But I live remote and spend pretty much zero minutes per year in traffic so a manual makes sense to me when I’m cruising in 6th for hours at a time.

Nice truck for that motor, will go like the proverbial off a shovel!

While it's not a race car, I don't find the D4D underpowered at all, but I used to have a 3L GU patrol so that's probably why. I know what you mean about the rangers, they're manual is horrendous, but I find the 2.8 matches well to the 6 speed manual, even if 6th seems a bit pointless with bigger tyres. I haven't driven the V6 lux so will have to take your word for it. I guess the low expectations I have make the driving a small motor pill a lot easier to swallow!

a 5spd manual, a 4 speed auto and a CVT.
Wish there will be a CVT Hilux at some stage.

At present 3 manuals
In the past 5 manuals
1 auto
2 manual drag cars
10 + manual race bikes ( Dirt bikes )

P.S. learner's and P platers should be made get their licence in a manual instead of the lazy Autos.
