Auto’s are commonplace these days.
A lot of people actually have to wait to get the manual they specifically want. So a lot don’t want to wait and just get the auto.
I waited nearly 3 months for mine to be made. (Think the boat got lost in all honesty.) if you want something specific you wait. Manual blue with leather there were none available in the country when I ordered mine.
It’s just the way the world is going everyone getting lazy.
Don’t get me wrong autos have there place but my boss has the auto same age and similar kit out I hated it. it always sounded horrible and over revved. Just wasn’t the same ute I felt like I had to push it all the time. While the manual lives in eco mode

Owe that’s gen 8 ;)

3 months, I was lucky then. I only had to wait 2 weeks for my blue manual with leather to come back to the mainland from Tassie, the only one in the country at the time.

Sounds like what they told me before I waited nearly 5 months for mine... Apparently a non-optioned blue manual SR isn’t a common order.

I have a manual mainly because I bought an ex demonstration ute and didn't get any choice. I really like the manal and will buy another one.

I've owned 3 cars in 28 years, all autos. My next car will be one as well, the trust is there as I've never had a transmission problem.
I used to drive a manual truck at work and my missus manual cars, I'm a very good manual driver but I just don't like all the mucking around in traffic. Does your head in.

I think its just a personal choice. If you enjoy being engaged in the driving experience , being part of the mechanical bond, then manual all the way.
However, Todays autos are magnificent you can slip those things all day everyday. Thats what they do in 1st gear at a set of lights. If you abuse it, it'll tell you through a light that says " im getting hot". Pull over let me cool.

Do that in a manual and its game over or very close to replacing a clutch.
Can crawl over rocks, take off on a snotty hillside all the while "slipping the clutch". Try doing that in a manual without removing material and shortening the life.

Downside i guess is clutch starting. But if you don't have any battery power can you do that it todays vehicles that needs to run fuel pumps etc?
You might get away with it if your starter motor was inoperable.

Looking at buying an SR5 manual ATM ... not much stock around. Auto stock is thick on the ground with every colour option. But Manual, very limited. Dealers all saying buyers have opted for manual due to better fuel economy generally, but also when towing.

Manual here, always has been, autos don't appeal to me.
But it is getting harder and harder to find a manual car.
Dealers seem to be pushing autos, can't blame them, but they are sticking to a backwards idea that ppl buy manuals cause they are cheaper, far from the truth.

To me they are more fun to drive, I know autos have their benefits off road but I enjoy the manual involvement.

VW are apparently bringing the V6 amarok in manual as they've lost potential sales to competition.

Soon we'll have to pay premium for a manual gearbox!
