Hilux Engines - where are they assembled?

Postby Andrew.Fenwick on Mon, 14 Jan 2019 6:26 +0000

Gents,

Could some please tell me if the current (and past D4D motors) are built in a joint owned factory?

Ive been told that from 2006 on wards, all Hilux/Prado/Land Cruiser engines are assembled in an Isuzu factory that was made when an agreement between Toyota and Isuzu was spawned.

I have rang Toyota Australia and they said a big "no way" and Ive rang my local toyota dealership and he said "no way" but I was a certain person in my life that continues to tell me that Toyota d4d motors are built in an Isuzu factory...

*edit* I should also say that this info this person has comes from this website -

If anyone has any info that would be great :)
Cheers
Andrew

PS. sorry wasn't sure what section this belonged in..

its a hard one to answer - Ive been to 2 different Toyota / Hino assembly plants in Nagoya and parts were shipped in from contractors all over the place , usually Thailand , judging by the writing on the side of the boxes. I asked the same question to my host and she said that engines and complete cars can be built at Toyota owned plants in South Africa , Japan , Brazil , Thailand and even the Phillipines.
So although the assembly plants are factory owned the parts can be from anywhere.

As far as I was aware the diesels were Thai built and the V6’s and A750F autos were out of Japan. Not sure if the A750F production moved to Thailand after they started fitting those to diesels.

This is pretty detailed, no mention of any current or past Isuzu joint venture:

My 2010 and 2011 V6’s both had Japanese made consumables on the engines, like oil filters. I had real trouble getting the 2011 after the 2010 was destroyed as the supply of V6 engines out of Japan was cut off by the Tsunami in that year.

My 2013 kun26 d4d had all Japanese stuff on it including a Japanese oil filter and I understand the engine was built and crated from Japan and the vehicle assembled in Thailand. Incidentally I cannot buy a Japanese made oil filter but all the genuine ones from Toyota Australia are Chinese or Thailand. So the Japanese oil filter (marked 'made in Japan') can't be bought in Australia (hence my belief they are Japanese made as is the engine). Why would the engine be built in Thailand but not have a Thai oil filter? Confusion reins but I have never heard of an Isuzu connection, as far as I know Isuzu engines are built by someone else! Maybe even in Italy????
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Yes when i was looking for a new car the dealer told me Isuzu source the 2015+ diesels from VM Moturi in Italy. same useless clowns responsible for the Landrover and many other junk diesels. I walked out quick smart!!

My last car was a jeep grand cherokee with the vm motori 3L diesel motor. Wish i had that motor in the hilux!! Makes the hilux motor look like a tractor motor.

Surprise silverfox I didn't get my Jeep Grand Cherokee home from the dealer without an engine fault light! That's why I bought a Hilux after the jeepn was in pieces for 3 months
