DPF 'Recall' but not really.

Just received a letter today from Toyota Australia titled 'Customer Service Exercise Notification' regarding the DPF issues. They have requested that I bring the car in for an ECM software upgrade and a DPF system inspection free of charge. They have also made available a feature called "DPF custom mode' which visually indicates to the driver every time an automatic regeneration is in progress also free of charge at the owners request. Not sure how they will do this I can't see any DPF symbols or messages on my dash, 2017 SR. So things are finally starting to happen hope it is not just a band aid solution.

Hey mate, if you look at an earlier thread regarding fuel consumption etc I went through the whole dpf issue just recently. Maybe you don't have issue now but you might still be getting less kms/l because of dpf 5th injector or something like that from what service techs also told me. To cut a long story short I went from 500km per tank(65L Fill) to 775km. Also, not blowing white/blue smoke when the build-up gets bad is also a bonus.

Get it sorted now, it will take an hour or so, free of charge and put it behind you

I had the ECM updated and DPF force cleaned in August 2018 at 40,000 k's so unless this is another newer update? In regards to fuel consumption I was getting 8.6l/100Km before the update better than most since then now getting 9.8L/100Km. Assuming previous data was reset with the new flash. Have only done 2000Km since update around town driving short trips might need more K's to get a better average.As far as being a permanent fix not sure about that. A number of Diesel experts seem to be pointing the finger at the 5th injector/design as the main culprit as well as software. Injector clogs up - no burn. Injector sticks open - lots of white smoke. At least Toyota seem to have conceded there is an issue and are trying to fix it unlike some of the other manufacturers.

My mail is as follows.

1. New update, which includes a message " DPF regeneration in progress"
2. A further recall to install a manual burn switch. ( just waiting on stock, and or Toyo to sign off on it)

So the recall is for 2015 to 2018 models
Does that mean that the 2018 facelift with the manual burn button has sorted the DPFs issues out
Or is it still a waiting game.

time will tell if the 18 models are sorted or not. there was some article somewhere i read which said the 5th injector is in a bad place and it blocks up and once that happens the whole thing goes south.

Hey guys,
My 2016 sr5 is booked in for tomorrow morning. I’ve had the white smoke issue occur once and Toyota rectified it by replacing the dpf. Is this grounds for me asking for a manual burn switch to be installed? I tend to only do short trips except for when we go away camping. I’ll definitely be asking for the ‘custom mode’ but would also really like to get the manual burn switch. Anyone had any luck getting the switch installed?

Just mention you do a lot of driving in the high country and would hate to set fire to the scrub when you could have done a manual burn prior...

Been to Moreton-great place. Booking in Fraser Island as we speak for Easter time. No luck with the manual switch. Told me if the dpf plays up after this update that the manual switch would be the next step.
