2016 SR5 Maps update

Postby Olde skool on Thu, 25 Oct 2018 11:25 +0000

Hi all,

Does anyone have a better or cheaper way of updating the maps on the satnav of a 2016 SR5 other than handing over $220 to,the dealership please? Might be cheaper to replace multimedia unit and just by a Garmin GPS from jb hifi for $100 and get lifetime map updates.

Thanx greatly for any and all help

Did a lot of looking into this mate before a trip to VIC (I'm in QLD) and I managed to find map files for IGO Primo and you can upload them via microsd but without that "licence file" ---- STOOFED :(

There were some overseas options but I wasn't that keen to hand over CCard details for something I wasn't 100% sure would work.

I ended up buying a good phone mount (Logitech) and used my phone running WAYZ

Wow at $220.00 they must have come down a lot they were $350.00 18 months ago & you would be very lucky if the map update you get is at least 12 months out of date when you buy it.(anyone paying that has got rocks in the head). Just as a matter of interest was told on here that Subaru map updates for almost identical head unit costing $700 .00. Forget about it. I did exactly what you suggested when I found that out. Bought a top of the line Garmin was $350.00 at the time they may even be cheaper now it has lifetime map updates for FREE & you get at least four every year, & FM traffic updates constantly, bluetooth phone connectivity you can install red light & speed camera locations & personal locations & a stack of other features as well worth every cent, just do it you will never look back :D :D :D
Cheers.
