Tyre size what you all running

Postby Hmansr5 on Sun, 14 Oct 2018 3:20 +0000

Hi guys first time posting here. I not long ago bought a brand new 2018 sr5 Hilux in fact it’s just on 2 weeks old now and the factory tyres and CRAP!!! Slip and slide all the time. Was just wondering what size and Tyre and brand you all changed too cause I really need to get rid them. I run cooper st MAXX on the prado I own and I get round the 90k out of them expensive to buy but well worth it just seeing what other people are running on their luxs

Wow, 90k is great mileage. Probably not performing at their peak by then though.

I’ve run STs, ST Maxx, BFG A/Ts etc. ST Maxx are at the more aggressive end of the A/T spectrum but they have been my favourite all round tyre in the last 10yrs. Chipped a few blocks off but were a solid performer in sand, mud and better than the others in terms of on road grip surprisingly.

Mickey T ATZ P3 - R17 265/70. They're heavy but they perform brilliantly on & off road. I love 'em.

Yeah creaky they are a great all rounder I love them and that’s a lot of dirt roads as well. As I’m only keeping the lux for 60000ks I don’t really want to spend that much on them especially if I’m not going to see the life time out of the tyres.

Davesumm what’s your approx ks you get out of the micky ts as I’m looking at them as well

I haven't got around to doing many K's in them yet as they're my 'playing out shoes', only about 5,000. Probably 1,000 of beach, river crossings & rocks. I've read that as long as they get rotated regularly, they'll last 100,000. Dunno how realistic that is but it was one guy's reckoning.

Old mate Bob has $100 off deal going atm. So wait a few weeks and you might get them free.

Nah....Nitto is a USA division of Toyo, so the exchange isn't so good given they are US made

I am about to give these TerraMax AT by Sailun a go. A few mates and a tyre guy recommended them to me.

Anyone else tried these?

Most of my driving is on Dirt, been running Bridgestone AT for years now.

$175 for the Terramax vs $350 for the Bridgestone.

I'm running the ATZ P3s in 265x70x17 as well. Just wondering what fuel economy others have be getting while running these tyres? I have the Auto with a 2 inch lift and I'm lucky to get 12.5L per 100K....more like 13 though.

I'd be double checking on that. I just paid $200 a corner for the Bridgestones. As a comparison the 200 got 285/70/18 BFG AT2's at $390 a corner. I think someone is having a go at you.

Cheers Nomad.

I have a manual 2017 SR5 diseasel and am getting 9.5L/100Km when running the ATZ P3's on the road. Off road it's obviously way worse. I'm getting 7.8L/100Km when running the OEM H/T Bridgestones.

I’ll be putting on a set of Yokohama Geolandar AT/S. had them on my previous ute and they’re great both in and off road. And last ages too.

I used to run Geolanders too but they aren’t a good tyre if you tow lots as their sidewalks are not as heavy as others. I changed to Toyos, far better suited to carrying loads and towing.

running BFG KO2's 265/65R18 on my 2016 SR5.
got 80,000km out of the last set, just got a brand new set.
that was rotating every 10k km and including the spare in the rotation.
no chipped lugs, no punctures, and i did drive a few pretty rough dirt roads in western qld and the NT.
cant really comment on fuel usage as mine is generally a bit higher - full barwork, 2 inch lift, 140l fuel tank and im sure the tyres increase fuel use a bit too. avg 11L/100km.
