Annoying vibration noise 2018 SR5

Postby roli on Thu, 19 Jul 2018 4:30 +0000

Hi everyone,
I have a 2018 SR5 manual, have had it for a bit over a month and has 1800kms on it. I've noticed a weird vibration noise between 1000rpm and 2000rpm, and seems like it's coming from firewall/ driver's side area. It's more noticable as the revs drop between this rev range. It's doing my head in trying to figure where it's coming from.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?
Cheers

Mate, I had a vibration between 1500 and 2000 rpm under light throttle. Put up with it for 18 months then mentioned it to the dealer last service. They found it, an air con hose vibrating against something behind the glovebox area. Wrapped it up and voila ... no noise !

It’s surprising how much it improved the serenity in the cabin.

Creaky,
Was the vibration there only after the engine warmed up a bit? Its got me buggered. I did have the vehicle at Toyota the other day for its first check up. Mentioned it to them, they had a look but then saw my provent catch can and said "oh it must be coming from that. Take it back to whoever installed it". So i took it back to mechanic and he sussed it out and said no I don't think its the Can vibrating....

Pretty sure mine was not engine temp sensitive ... but I was trying to block it out so may not have noticed.

Provent catch cans are known to cause the noise you describe, mine did. There is a spring in the anti-vacuum valve that can be replaced with a heavier version that will solve the problem. My ute also had vibration noise to left of firewall, this was solved by packing lower heater pipe. Computer mounting brackets behind clovebox are also known to vibrate and may need packing to prevent.

When it comes to a he said she said situation like this.
The LAW states that Toyota needs to prove in writing that the fault is caused by the aftermarket accessories. If they can not prove that it has been caused by aftermarket parts then they are responsible for its repair.

This is black and white in the law. And it’s on the 3rd party products side.
Most people don’t know this and the dealerships rely on the lack of info.

I've got an annoying vibration as described. It's often when taking off from lights from 2nd to third. Sounds like it's coming from the centre dash area. Has anyone found the issue? Toyota couldn't find it.

I have a 2016 model, and the noise is there sometimes and then nothing for a week.
It comes on at 1900rpm and disappears at 2200rpm.

Creaky, is it hard to get behind the glovebox?

Mine did exactly the same for about a week then just stopped after I parked up in the blazing sun for a day.

I had the glove box out last weekend to install a front camera, there is a 1/4 turn pin on each side which lets it drop a little further. Then you need to ease off the damper on the left hand side, it'll now open further and it'll easily pull towards you. There's also a plastic panel underneath that unclips at the front then pull out.

The only thing I noticed was that the braketry is pretty flimsy but there's plenty of sound deadining on the firewall. It's also fairly tight for space, you can get your fingers in to poke around. An inspection camera might reveal more.

Hello, I have exactly the same sound coming from the dashboard on my hilux revo of 2017. After taking it to the dealership more times, he can not find it.

Do you have more information about the hose? Or on the location of it to reach it? Or a trick to disassemble the top of the dashboard?

Sorry mate, no specifics on the hose but I know they just accessed it via glovebox removal.

Hi All
I have a 2019 manual duel cab that has this annoying vibration/harmonic noise throughout the entire rev range, even noticeable at idle standing still. Noise is coming from the engine bay and is very evident from the drivers seat and felt thru the steering wheel and gearstick.Vehicle has travelled only 7,000klms and noise was first noticed at 1900klms. Had it a a dealer on several occasions and they are struggling to identify the cause or possible rectification. Noise is most evident at approx 2000rpm under slight load but is also evident at all revs, ie evident on freeway at 110klms regardless of what gear you are in.
I have been over the vehicle several times looking for anything loose or rubbing on the chassis but all appears to be ok. I am suspecting 2 possible causes, 1 being the alternator and the other being a problem inside the dpf filter causing the exhaust to vibrate.
Any feedback on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi greg
At idle is that in neutral or with the clutch pushed in
And does the noise increase or decrease with engine revs
Being under warranty push the dealer to rectify the problem

HI Dave
Thank you for your reply.
At idle doesn't matter if clutch in or out
Vibration/harmonic noise is engine related and does increase slightly as revs are increased.
Very evident at highway speeds, ie 110klm
If you depress the clutch at 100klm per hour the noise/vibration reduces to what it normally is at idle.
Very annoying as it constantly has this harmonic type vibration all the time and feels like an old vehicle that has done 500,000klm's.
This vehicle has only travelled 7,000klm's
Thanks again.

Greg keep pushing the dealer to fix
You can try taking the belts off then run the motor for a short time to see if it stops it will show if it is one of the things the belt drivers if it is still there it could be inside.
Not easy to find without the car.

Just don't take NO from the dealer.
If not email Toyota.

Hi Dave
Yes have booked in to have belt removed to see if noise disappears.
Have seen several threads on the net in relation to alternator causing this noise.
Will update as soon as this has ben done.
Thanks again

Hello,

I revive the subject a little, I have a noise coming from the dashboard during acceleration between 1500 and 2000 rpm.
The noise resembles a vibration from one object to another and is more on the passenger side of the dashboard and is quite present.
I tried without the glove boxes and the noise seems to come from deeper in the dashboard. I have also already removed the dashboard from the dashboard to see if anything could make this noise, but I couldn't find anything.
If anyone has had this problem before, on my last dealership visit which was about a year ago there was less noise, and they didn't look too hard.

I'm French, I have the same problem on my Revo, this problem disappears if you press the "Power Heat" button. The engine speed will increase to compensate for the consumption of the heating resistor of the cooling circuit, it stops when the engine is hot, the engine returns by itself to 900 RPM. Do the test if you do not have the possibility to adjust the "Injector Pilot Quantity Learning"

Hi,
I have a short video for you to listen to the noise coming from behind the dashboard as if there was something loose.
It's not the noise of an injector because it comes from well inside the 4x4. I've already removed the dashboard but I haven't found anything in particular, I reattached the heating pipes at the same time to be sure it's not coming from there.

video-1643047819.mp4

The noise was filmed with the 2 glove boxes removed and the telephone near the upper glove box housing. The sound is much more present in reality because with the telephone it does not necessarily come out well.

if you have a solution and the technical sheets, i take it.

Regards
Laurent
