Catch Can Prevent v HDP &(Toyota Warranty)

Postby Phrancis on Tue, 01 May 2018 4:30 +0000

Bloody auto correct Provent v HPD

Anyone have some updated info re: Provent 200 and HDP catch cans?

Also Toyota warranty-
engine/turbo warrant void if they can somehow link it back to the catch can.

Toyota say best off waiting till out of warranty, which somewhat defeats the purpose.

Might have to remove everytime it goes back for a warranty issue.
Play the Toyota game

Ive had mine on, and just got it serviced today.
it simply just filters oil fumes from the breather then routes back the way it should.

I haven't had any DPF problems ( touch wood) yet. But i did have the clunky diff which seems to have totally gone after they replaced the diff.

I do recall one chap on here having a blown turbo?
Toyota blamed the catch can......But after some push and shove it was all done under warranty.

look. at the end of the day Toyota knows that somethings not quite right with the DPF system, but they are working on it.

You could have bought a ford, where they just tell you SFA
But they might change their tune now after being fined $10M for the lies they told about the powershit transmission

Just to clarify....I have the provent catch can. I wouldn't trust the HDP setup.
But i'm not saying it crap. Just think there's more thought in the provent system

^^ I agree, I have the hpd can and when I received it there were metal shavings from the threads being taped that I pull out and also small bits of metal from the edges of the filter which break off.
Not sure how much air flows through the can but if there’s abit, there’s definitely potential for something bits of broken metal to blow through

Has anyone come to a conclusion as to what catch cans are the best on the market?
There seems to be some that rate the Provent, others prefer the HDP, or other brands on the market.
It's hard to get a decent honest opinion from the manufacturers and distributors, they all pump up their own product and hang shit one everyone elses.
Surely there must be a bunch of guy's here on the forum that have installed catch cans, and have proven opinions over time as to what they feel are the best performance wise.
A catch can is something I know I need, but I really want to make sure I get the right one
and do it right the first time.

^^^Just installed Provent 200 Kit this arvo.
OME for auto manufactures- Volvo, Mann etc.
Replaceable filter.
Pressure regulator valve.
Oil drain tap.
Made in Germany.

That's reason enough for me.

I have the HPD, I originally picked it over the provent because you can just wash the filter rather than buy replacements. Just one less thing to worry about.
However, for the price I’m not really impressed on the quality.
One of the hoses wasn’t long enough to install it the recommended way so I had to do it abit differently. There were dags still hanging off the housing when the threads were tapped and also little bits from the edges of the mesh filter had fallen off and were in the can when I unpacked it.
Probably one in a million chance but there could have been a possibility of one of the bits of metal going down one of the hoses into the turbo or the block.
All that being said, it works fine and looks nice in the engine bay.
Just abit disappointed for the price of them.

Yer I was surprised when I read that Tyler (less surprised the second time though) my HPD is a work of art. Couldn’t fault it, but haven’t tried the Provent. Washable filter and aesthetics got me.

Provent 200 along with ultra efficient filtration medium LC5002X is the best catch can in market.

Also, here is a comparison between different brands of catch cans
http://www.unsealed4x4.com.au/u4x4/issu ... Send+1#113

You'll be surprised to know that all aluminum bodied catch cans in this comparison (HPD, TiapanXP bilet, Calibre Polished 400cc) are the worst, with inferior filteration performance.
