Great White spotlight demo

Postby ih8ubarney on Thu, 19 Apr 2018 12:28 +0000

had the opportunity to play with some great white light bars and spot lights a while ago so i thought i'd put some pics here.
should mention a few disclaimers,
- the pics were just taken with my phone
- we weren't trying to do some fancy comparison so the lights aren't all pointing perfectly same angle and direction - we just wanted to see what they looked like
- the lights were hand held around waste height and there was rain on the way so we were is a bit of a hurry
- distance wise there is about 500m of flat road ahead of the car then it a rises and a kinks to the left

pics below are

1 - just my phone with flash (for reference)
2 - Great white 6 led attack single row light bar
3 - Great white 9 led attack single row light bar
4 - Great white 15 led attack single row light bar
5 - Great white 24 led attack single row light bar
6 - Great white gen 2 36 led dual light bar
7 - Great white 170 attack round led single light
8 - Great white 220 attack round led single light

Nice! Interesting that the last pic fills the area in front of you with light.
I might be wrong.

2009 BMW X5 - destroyed by a hail storm

i think thats more the angle the spot light was held, angled down more than the rest.... there is a big bright spot in the middle of the road, i think if we had angled up a bit there would have been a fair bit more distance

How’d they seem in person ?
Much noticeable difference between jumping up in bar size ?
Different characteristics between the round and flat lights ?
Cheers

not a huge noticeable difference as we stepped up through the light bars, but you would definitely notice it jumping from say the 6 to the 15 led. the light bars felt like they had a better spread of light in the first few hundred meters where the rounds seemed like they had better distance.

i really like to look of a single row light bar on vehicles, but they are usually no match for a pair of rounds.
if i had to hand over my cash, I'd probably go for the 18 led gen 2 just cause it would rarely be used, but if i was still doing alot of night driving a pair of 170 round's would be my pick.
while the 18 Gen 2 is not in these images i experienced it first had on a predawn dash to double island point for a surf in a friends car and was surprised at the light output, the 36 led we tested was impressive, but its also about $1100 RRP!

the "attack" range had a back lit "bling" function so the area around the led lenses can be lit up with your head lights... this doesn't seem to me mentioned anywhere.
