DPF issues Y/N: No.
Herd alot about them playing up but never seen one blowing smoke till today 13/2/19. Ive personally never had any issues. My truck gets warmed up for about 5-10mins everytime before being driven depending on the season probably longer during winter.

Hi All, so does the DPF issue actually cause harm to the engine at all? Understand it is annoying having the filter replaces multiple times for some people. But does the issue actually have any negative issues to the engine performance long term?

dont know for sure - all i can think of is the extra post injection fuel being squirted in during a burn which may contribute to oil being washed off cylinder walls , as well as reduced fuel efficency which is never a good thing anyway.

The "extra fuel" you refer to is introduced by the 5th injector which is downstream from the cylinders - so could not be washed off the cylinder walls.

no , i definitly did mean the post injection phases - where the injectors dump extra fuel into the cylinder post TDC , which is the main method used to increased DPF temps. The 5th injector just helps the process in addition to post injection.

I wasn't aware of this. If this is the case could it cause oil dilution. Because that would be bad

It does, common issue across vehicles with DPF and it's typically tracked & managed by the ECU. For example the dilution amount is one parameter that's reset after oil change at service, common issue for a DYI. Here's an explanation for Subaru as I also happen to have one but it is similar:

Interesting. I thought it was a figment of my imagination one day when checking the oil. I took a little off the dip stick to run between my fingers and it felt "gritty"
Like fine pieces of sand , not large grains and not a lot. But small enough to feel between your fingers.
Maybe this is carbon " being washed off" but i guess it should at some stage be caught by the filter.

Has anyone had a dpf issue after the latest fix by Toyota. Mine never had any issues to start with and had the dpf fix done at 40,000klms. I'm just trying to find out if mine is still a time bomb or would it now be more reliable. Thanks

Mines still playing up after the latest update, seems to be if I turn it off during a regen and it cools down next time I start it blows massive amounts of smoke once it gets upto temp. Also taking a long time to regen and using alot more fuel to do it, gone from low 8s to 11-12+ Lt per 100 with most of my driving being highway.
Service manager said he had only seen a couple come back since the update. Waiting to hear what they will do to fix it.

Looks like i need to update my info.
49023kms and its blowing small amounts of smoke.
According to the scan gauge it seems to be stuck doing a burn at 12%.
Got the recall notice a couple of weeks ago and was waiting till it was due for a service ( early April)
And of course it had to happen on a friday.

Issues from the beginning
3 or 4 dealer regens and heaps of bullish*t from the dealers, 4-5 burnoffs in a row, eventually replaced the dpf @ 11500ks and still stupid amounts of burnoffs, re maps and more bullish*t from dealers. diabolical fuel consumption.
The ACCC have published that Toyota knew about the issues from day one and instructed their minions to lie to buyers and treat them like mushrooms. Im sick of this truck and the lies from these muppets.

Well Just read every post, am in the market for a 4X4 Hilux SR single cab auto...???
What do I do...??? 2019 models ,are they safe, is there a VIN # to make sure it is the latest and greatest ...???
It is for a motorhome , not a kids run with low K's, but it doesnt seem to matter...???
