My 2017 Hilux 4wd dual cab auto has just had 3 smoking events within the last 1500K's starting at about 37000K's with none previous to that. It only lasts for a minute before it clears out but very embarrassing. Up until the 37000K mark I was doing a lot of highway driving but since then lots of short trips around town although i have been deliberately taking it out on to 80-100K roads to try and get the burn going. I drive in eco mode most of the time and don't carry much weight and get 8.6L/100k which is accurate. I did notice on the last smoking event a different noise coming from the engine bay and the fuel consumption read out shot up. I assume it was the regeneration thing happening but are the clouds of smoke normal or acceptable? Will be having it's 40000K service soon and will be letting them know that i am well aware of the DPF issues with these engines. Will post back the results then.

Had the 40000Km service today this is what was written on the service report. "Smokey Exhaust - Cleared by clearing calibration file - Reflash and forced DPF burn". They said that this new flash is 3 weeks old. Fingers crossed.
My 2017 hilux has done 98k and will be having its 3rd DPF fitted in a couple of weeks. I had it tested a week back and it failed after a forced burn, the CPU was also recalibrated.

I asked service manager DPF replacement cost and he said it isn’t the $10k rumours that have been thrown around....
He said $2500 plus around 6hours of labour.

The Hyundai i30 costs 7k, that's roughly 1/3 of the total cost of the car.

Replacing the DPF on the hilux is just like replacing a muffler 1/2 hr job.

Mine is in for 70k service and getting a new(second one so far) DPF ,but Toyota have 0 stock in Australia. I asked about after the 100000km /3 year warranty ,and Toyota said they will continue to waranty the DPF even after the warranty runs out ,as its an existing problem.

My service manager also said this to me last service upon me questioning this issue ...... will be interesting to see if it’s true soon with the first few of this model coming out of warranty any time now.

Good result, did they put the latest version of the software in it as well? I hear there was one released about a month ago.

Yes I have the lastest software version, but I'm still waiting on a new dpf to be fitted. Currently waiting for stock.

Gday all after reading all this thread i was thinking has anyone tried consistently running fule doctor/ diesel power/ whatever other fule conditioner / injector cleaner? I was thinking it might help the fifth injector stay a bit cleaner. Just an idea ;)
I love my ute but not as much as my dashound does!!
I just put a 3 inch exhaust on the ute, now the D4D sounds like a V4!!!

How often does everyones dpf run the burn? I had a long drive yesterday and it seems to do it every 300 km's which i think is a bit to often.

Mine runs in accumulation phase for 400 km then burns for 30 km - mixed suburban and highway driving.

It took over 20K to see the first one, now I see it burn off for about an hour of driving every couple of months. I'll say something at my next service and see what they say. Doesn't really bother me.

My car goes for 10k service Saturday, will see what they say.
Patch job no doubt.
