Timing belt issue

Postby nifftyrum on Sat, 25 Nov 2017 10:30 +0000

Hi All,I just recently had my 50k service done on my 2015 SR5 Hilux. Apart from the usual Dpf and brakes needing machining again, I was most concerned to hear that the timing belt needs replacing with only 50k on the clock and two years old. It started off as a slight rattle on start up in the morning when the engine is cold, it only lasted a couple of seconds and went away. It still doesn’t last long, just louder now. I was wondering has anyone had the same issue.

Strange

Id say timing belts need replacing anywhere from 80000kms to 100000kms.
Timing chains should go a lot longer, in fact possibly to the life of the engine, however if it lets go, thats the end of the engine life.

anyway, if its real, you might as well change the water pump and serpentine belt whilst they are at it, because they would have taken everything apart to get there

I have a 2016 sr5 auto with same rattle when started in the morning, it lasts for about 2 seconds then goes away Toyota say what they always say and that it's normal because they don't even know anything about these trucks yet
