Reversing camera

Postby tropicrows on Thu, 23 Nov 2017 8:35 +0000

Has anyone fitted a genuine reversing camera to a 2016 hilux trayback. Was it a simple plug and play, or did the dash needes to be pulled apart to fit the wiring etc.
Toyota want to charge me about $180 to fit it.

When I had my tub pulled of the fitters extracted the wiring loom from the tub to refit on the tray.

They didn’t fit the camera, so I extracted the the camera and it small wiring loom when I got home.

It’s was very simple as it just plugged back into the original plug and I bolted the camera to the top of the number plate bracket. Works perfectly

when I purchased my tray back, IO got them to swap the reversing camera and fit a parking sensor, then a neat switch on the dash so I can see the reversing camera when driving along, very handy bit of kit when the camper is on the back :D

Correct, the loom needs to run front to rear and into the back of the AV unit in the dash, there is no pre-installed part of the wiring in place. Also note that the reversing camera for the cab-chassis doesn't have the guide lines that the tub version does. It's not a problem in day to day use but some people have previously raised it as a "fault".

You can buy an aftermarket reversing camera kit that is plug and play for $179 from Carbon car systems. It comes with instructions how to remove your dash to plug the unit in. HD camera with the reversing lines.

Easy to install and so far it has been fantastic. :)
