Tub liner removal for fridge slide install

Postby darren278 on Wed, 27 Sep 2017 8:20 +0000

Hi guys.
I need to fit a waeco fridge slide in my 2016 sr5. I have a tub liner and genuine tonneu cover.
I know people generally bolt through the tray bed but I don't really want to lose the tub liner due to work tools etc...

My thoughts so far are,1 : cut a peice of plate to the size of fridge slide and rivet onto tub liner then tek screw slide to the plate. I'm thinking the rivets will pull through the tub liner regardless of how many rivets I fix.

2: remove tub liner, install lengths of steel along the profile of the liner and bolt the fridge slide through tub liner and into the lengths of steel. I think this is the best way to go, but how easy or hard is it to remove the tub liner and refit?

Anyone here done anything similar or have a better solution?
I'm not keen on losing the liner and replacing with ply.
Cheers for any help.

Cant you just drill through the tub liner, use a bolt, washer top and bottom, throw in a spring washer for under the tray and a nut. Use some silicon and call it good
Seen people do it with drawers

Possibly. my only thought with that is that there is quite a large gap between the top of the tub liner ( where the slide will sit ) and the bed of the tub.
Do you reckon I'll be able to tighten the bolts enough without the liner distorting?

I agree with Allords
To prevent the tub liner distorting, put your steel plate or board on top of your liner
This will evenly distribute the downward force preventing any distortion
I had this in my last hilux using 4 bolts and a piece of ply board

Ok just had a look at mine.

It seems that to top ribs of the liner match the bottom ribs of the tub. So yeah there will be a gap.

Only alternative is to drill through the bottom ribs of the liner ( which will match to top rib of the tub )
Then pack the head of the bolt with a spacer.

That plastic cutting board your wife has in the kitchen comes to mind :D
Take it to the shed when she aint looking, and introduce it to a hole saw

Yeah, I knew deep down that I was going to have to drill through the tub base. Was kind of hoping someone would say they've fixed to the liner with no problems.

I better not nick the wife's kitchen stuff though. I won't get any dinner.
Cheers for the replies.

I didn't do the fridge slides in mine, but I did install a metal base for my battery box. I ended up drilling through the tub liner and through the tub. Then installed rivnuts in the tub to receive bolts from the top. Simple to do, and I just take the metal base out when not camping away.It just leaves the four holes in the liner which you could plug if you wanted to.
