Steering wheel worn

Postby Kris NT on Sun, 23 Jul 2017 8:15 +0000

Hi all
Has anyone else got a steering wheel that's showing wear marks and car still has low k's ?
I have October 2016 SR5 with just over 20,000k on the clock.
Today I noticed the wear marks.

I had that at about 13,000k on my 2014 model. I asked for a replacement at the next service at got it with no problems at all. I know of two others who have had theirs replaced as well (All 2014 / 2015 previous moel)

Cheers,

Jim

It's a known issue to my knowledge and you should get it replaced if asking about it.

My 2011 has worn badly. I picked up a NOS one, had the original receipt in the box from 2012 - $2700 or thereabouts! Ouch. I'd hate to have to buy one for a 2016-17 outright at retail!

Yea I had it on my 2015 sr5. Thought it was just dirt but upon closer inspection it was pitted like in your photos. Was replaced no problem under warranty

Toyota still using poor quality material on the steering wheels! My 2013 SR5 was badly worn. It was out of warranty, but I still pleaded my case with Toyota and got a replacement for free. Same with the gearknob.

Had the same mate, mainly on the top of the steering wheel. Just over 20,000km. They replaced it under warranty and I did ask the question - "is this being replaced by something that doesn't wear out so quick?" to which I got a "don't know". They also tried to say "be careful what you put on your hands" hmmmm

My 2010 wheel is badly worn at the top. How do i convince toyota that they want to replace it for me? I'd the only part of the car that hasn't worn well
