New Lux is a tissue box

Postby barryswanson on Tue, 18 Jul 2017 7:35 +0000

I'm sitting here waiting for the paintless dent repair man to fix a minor dent in my car for the third time this year.
He sai the new Toyotas are now all made out of really thin metal. He said he spends half his time at Toyota getting dents out of brand new cars. He said the new land cruisers are really bad around the door handles because you need to hold the handle up to close the door and they get heaps of thumb prints.
I also just spoke to a friend who got one and he said he spotted a couple already on his brand new lux bought last week.

I highly recommend using a paintless dent repair guy if you have the same problem I do.

where's the dent? I've got a lift and ironman sidesteps which should save my front door from trolleys and careless ppl opening doors at car parks, however, it probably won't protect the rear doors as hatchbacks and whatnot have weird tapered angled rear doors that means the top sticks out further than the bottom.

Today's one was on the tail gate. The past two on the left and right rear doors.

You're not joking.
The young bloke hit the front guard with a soccer ball. He's 6, not Ronaldo. Dent right in the crease.
Weak a pi$$.

less weight = better fuel economy. Doesn't matter what you buy they all use thinner sheet metal

Yet they can somehow now tow 3.5tonnes!

Not sure about less weight....A 2017 dual cab SR5 diesel manual Kerb weight is 2075kg. A 2015 version of the same specs was 1920kg.

Like all the current crap out there stating these stupid towing capabilities. Just because they think the engine and driveline can pull it doesn't mean the chassis and body can handle it!!

Struth, I'd rather hit a mickey bull with my new hilux than my fx ute. The old girl is proper steel and when u hit a wallaby it dies....if I hit a road going bovine then I'm dead. Think about it.

I'm a brickie and I've hit my new ute plenty of times with trestle legs and tools buckets. I'm having the exact opposite experience to you, I can't dint the thing. Mine's been as tough as old boots.
I used to lean over my old holden ute and the keys in my jacket would dint the side, no comparison.

Apparently the new Hilux is 40% thicker around the tub than the Ranger, don't know about the other brands though.
According to the Toyota advertising its stronger built in every way than all of the hiluxes before it. I can't dispute that to date, until I get that first dint of course then I'll be joining the chorus.

Edit: I just remembered mines a SR and you guys are probably talking about the SR5. Our car's are different from the cabin backward. Mines made for tradesmen like me.

The steel on my Hilux doors appear to be much thicker than the VE ute which it replaced. The tub and tailgate appear to be quite strong, but I have the tradie spec workmate not an SR5. Not sure if there's a difference...

VE's aren't Aussie steel, so both probably from the same steel plant!

Metaphorically speaking Nick. If I wanted to dint the thing I'd just use a hammer.
To date I've accidentally hit the sides and tailgate with trestles, planks, tools buckets and a shovel. No dints yet, impressive. Sorry to hear you got a dint from an innocuous hit, that's bad luck.
