Is the 29PSI recommendation for the 60 profile 18" HT tyres?
I ask as I had standard steel 17" rims with 65 profile AT tyres put onto my SR5

29 is correct, the 17 inch tyres are a higher pressure, check owners manual it is in there.

Is the 30-32 psi rule the same for a 265/70/17 tyre? I checked mine the other day and they are a whopping 45psi on each corner!? Can I assume the brand/style of the tyre are not a factor with pressures?
The smaller wheels of my previous car was only ever inflated to 32, they were a hell of a lot smaller though...

Flacky 29PSI is the official recommendation for 17" and 18" wheels. Basically the same wear on the tyres but much better ride comfort.

the tyre shop put 40 in mine but it feels like my teeth are going to rattle out. ive gone down to 33.

Read the side wall of your tyre.

Toyota don't make tyres, and to suggest 29psi is dumb ( unladen or fully loaded)
Ive tried the 29 psi and the car was like a boat, and the roar/squeel around corners told me there was not enough air in them. Felt the tyres and they were hot.

I run 34 -36 for long distance highway runs as well as around town. Huge difference!

To qualify. I have a canopy, drawers, bar and dual battery.
Would much rather put safety ahead of comfort, but its not a bad ride at all

Under inflated tyres will wear at the shoulders, buckle upwards in the centre under heavy breaking, and buckle in the middle on wet roads.
Over inflated tyres will wear in the middle, and under heavy breaking only the centre will have contact with the road.

You can even see this in skid marks on the road. Under inflated and you'll see two skinny lines, (the shoulders only)
Over inflated, and you'll see a skinny single line. In both cases you don't have the tyres full contact patch to help you.

The right pressure is not a one size fits all, but dependent on speed, and the load you are carrying

+1 and I'd add personal preference to that list. I run 38 to 40 on the highway for economy.

I run 38 highway.
11psi on the beach. See people struggling to get up dunes and suggest they let their tyres down - usually reply they are already all the way down to 20-25.

With a steel bar, dual batts in front and no load on the back I run 42 on front and 36 on rear which works good for me, tyre size is 32’s,, 29 for corrugation not the freeways!!

Haha I suspect you are in the majority - I showed my missus how to check her tyre pressures at the garage the other week. She’s been driving 20 years and has never checked them lol

Thanks guys - just dropped the 18"s on the SR5 to 29psi this morning. They were still dealer 'set' at 36psi. Ride is noticeably better - still bumpy but bumps are just that and not violent jolts now.

I ran 29PSI for a couple of months and then went to 34PSI to see if there was much difference in fuel consumption and ride.
The ride was only a bit harder and I went from 12.1L average to 11.9L after about 6 weeks. It's stayed there (city driver, bricklaying tools in back).

I run 40psi in mine, 33x12.5R15, to try to save a quid in fuel. I mainly use my truck for round town driving. It does kill my back over the bumps, or it could be the heavy duty leaf springs the previous owner was running unnecessarily. Really should sort them out...

The saving so so small it's not worth it . Grab some beers and get a 4 cents off voucher that would be better than the crap ride your getting .

Yeah I run 40psi on and off road in my 305/70r16 BFG muddies. Only let them down if I get stuck in the sand otherwise leave them as is.
Just as smooth on the road as my commodore just abit slower and a lot louder.

You know when you drive on dry sand with hard tyres you are constantly digging and climbing, working your vehicle hard and creating corrugations in the track. Please be kind and let your tyres down on the beach.

Yeah, i get that alot. Everytime i drop my pressures though i feel like I'm driving on flat tyres, so i just keep them high.
