Does anyone use the diesel fuel additive "Responsive"?

Postby Toeknee2 on Fri, 30 Dec 2016 7:45 +0000

Hi fellas.
Does anyone use the diesel fuel additive "Responsive"?
It is recommended by a few 4x4 "experts" but they might just be in it for the coin.

https://www.4x4australia.com.au/gear/15 ... -oz-diesel

Does anyone know anything about the product, and if so what are your thoughts?
I'm considering using it in every second or third tank for the life of my diesel engine but I don't know if I'm being wise or a sucker.
Thanks in advance,
Tony

Diesel additives re not needed in modern diesel engines with the latest fuels. In fact many of the fuel additives on the market are suitable only for the early injectors and injector pumps and fuel control valves. If you use one that is not specifically designed for the very latest diesel engines you can thousands of dollars of damage to your fuel system. I would advise against using any fuel or oil additives in the new hilux or anything powered by the new 2.8 diesel.
Cheers.

Thanks for that Dino. Are you a diesel mechanic?

What do you think to the installation of a water trap in the fuel system, over the top? It's the best part of $500 so I'm not keen.

You can tell I've never owned a diesel before, complete mystery. :?

What evidence do you have to make such a comment ?

Nope$500 too much when you can buy a Donaldson for $100 for the kit. Yes I agree, what evidence? Not a bad idea to use fuel Doctor ever now and then to minimise water/gunge in your tank as well as protection from mould (cladosporium resinae) look it up in Google ;)
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Google "microbes in fuel" BP has good information on it. look at https://asknature.org/strategy/secretio ... GnIVYw7ZoM

Thanks guys.
While waiting for my new ute to be delivered I've looked into catch cans, water traps and fuel additives... (must be getting restless with the wait.)
Never owned a diesel before, assumed there was nothing to it. Just put the fuel in and service when required.
With a bit of research I've learned that there's plenty of experts out there preaching that these add-ons are a MUST if you want no future problems. Bit scary, makes me think what the hell am I getting my self into here?

I'm seriously thinking about is the catch can, $350 (and the Donaldson). I value the opinions on here, anyone think that's a waste?

So the catch can captures oil in the fuel and the water trap catches water in the fuel? Hmm, Is there a product that does both? Otherwise the fuel has to travel through three filters!

Catch can goes in line with the engines crankcase breather and removes most of the oil preventing it from clogging up the intake. A quality 2nd fuel filter catches finer crap than the factory unit along with any water, these are a must!

Ive used flashlube diesel conditioner in two tank fulls.
No real world benefit......yet, just hoping the magic spiel on the package works.

It is quiet, not that typical diesel rattle. But 2 stroke oil might do the same thing

Have the catch can, have the pre filter. Come to think of it, this things got more protection than a pharmacy.
I thought diesels were tough?

About the same coin, but for 4 liters. Mix at 200:1. Based on anecdotal evidence, one of the best additives on the market.

I was being a little tongue in cheek here.
Dont add ANY oil in a modern diesel.

so i sent valvoline a question about if they had zinc in there 2 stroke oil as i use the outboard 2 stroke oil and got this response
Good Morning Justin,

Thank you for your enquiry, unfortunately there is no Zinc in any of our 2-Stroke oil. This was advised by the Valvoline Technical team

Please feel free to contact technical if you have any further questions on 1800 804 658

i put injector cleaner thru every four tanks and run 2 stoke oil always, seems too run smoother on cold start
my injector feed back values are better when oil is in fuel.
ive been thinking of going to diesel conditioner flashlube, not much difference in price and claims better fuel economy
seems like they did lots of testing

and post their results
my two cents

Ive used the flash lube diesel conditioner in two tank fulls
Haven't noticed any better economy, or power but the car is quieter when started from cold.
They say that it cleans injectors and the fuel system which adding a little lube to the injectors and upper cylinder.
Maybe, maybe not. But looking at the background of the German developer who was a scientist for the CSIRO here and working on this very thing for the GOV, I'm kinda thinking it might be more than just magic smoke.

Now I'm not suggesting that he developed this, it might just be a case of him testing various additives and found one that works and approached them to bottle it for him with his brand?
I think his catch can is just a different version of provent as it uses the same filter, but change the design a little , put your brand on it and theres money to be had.

Only issue i have with 2 smoke oil, is will it be filtered out buy the fuel filter ?
