Can we turn off the reverse camera beep?

Postby Laverty on Sat, 19 Nov 2016 11:35 +0000

Hi guys,

During the week I was lucky enough for work to upgrade my work ute to the new Hilux. I did a quick search and couldn't see anything for this model, is it possible to turn off the beep from the reverse camera? It is so loud, first time I put it in reverse and that initial beep went off I jumped straight on here to try find a solution. Also the beeps that go off when the sensors pick up something are wayyyyy too sensitive. Can this beep also be turned off or maybe adjusted by Toyota?

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't beep when you first put the car in reverse?

Laverty, what grade of Hilux do you have? It sounds like you have reversing sensors in addition to the reverse camera. Where these fitted by the dealer as I don't believe they are standard?

I have the reversing sensors that were an extra and can confirm that a beep sound is heard whenever put into reverse gear.

It's a 2wd dual cab, presumably the entry model as it has the black bumper. Yeah it definitely has reverse sensors, they beep at everything. Reversing in to a car park it beeps at the cars either side, but can clearly see in the side mirrors there is plenty of room... More of a hassle then it is worth I reckon.

Sounds like an aftermarket kit.

Find the control box for it, possibly behind a kick panel or glovebox. Unplug the speaker/unit or change the sensitivity.

Is it a work or mine vehicle. Most of them have to have reverse beep for workcover purposes.
A lot of work places, it could be standard practice in their schedule. If a service vehicle they have to be up to the company's you service to go on to their site.

For a home use vehicle - it would be great if this could be turned off - any ideas how to do this?

My 2017 SR5 is also fitted with the orig Toyota Rear Parking Assist Sensors options.
The salesman told me they would automatically turn OFF if I had a trailer plug inserted - BUT IT DOESN'T - any ideas how to do this?

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If its the genuine Toyota reverse park assist, there should be a buzzer with an Off/LO/HI switch behind the dash to the left of the glove box.

Have a look at the following fitting instructions for more info.
