Help Identifying a part under my gen 8 Hilux

Postby Tabsymy16 on Wed, 12 Oct 2016 9:23 +0000

Hi all, coming out from the chassis rails and rubbing on the cars body with spring tension on them is these 2 galvinsed metal rods , they are also a culprit for a squeeking noise for me, see picture, does any one know what they are there for??
The truck is the latest Gen 8 Hilux dual cab 4x4 SR

the blue bits of foam i have just put there for now to stop the annoying squeek noise.

my guess is a grounding rod or something left over from assembly at the factory but im not to certain.
Local dealership knows nothing as yet but is looking into it.

Looks like they are the guide sticks for the weld nut plate for the side step brackets.

The sticks hold a plate with a welded nut to mount the steps brackets, they should be pushed and tucked in towards the rail, not broken in case the steps ever need to be removed.

Mate you are the Man! yes it makes sense now, cools i will just grind them a bit shorter so they dont rub on the body then but still leave a good 2.5 inches or so, so it can be used if needed later for removal of the nuts inside :)
Thanks heaps

A few bends of the stick where the indents on the edges are it should break off. just leave enough to get your fingers too if they ever need removal.
