Gen 7 Diesel Vs Gen 8 Diesel Autos

Postby Rich on Tue, 27 Sep 2016 4:01 +0000

So I still have a previous model D4D 3.0L 4 speed Auto and I am wondering if anyone on here has owned both the old 3.0L 4 speed diesel and the new generation 6 speed auto in the 2.8L?

Is there much difference in acceleration / power / towing with the new diesel auto compared to the 3.0L D4D ?

Rich.

The 4spd auto is awful in the pre 2012/13 compared to the A750F 5spd auto behind the V6 and the later versions of 3.0L diesel. Can't help you with the new ones.

I had a 2008 4 speed Auto and now have the new Gen 8 6 speed auto, I was happy with the 4 speed but the new 2.8 6speed auto pulls like a train when the camper is hooked on the back. When not towing and driving around town not a big difference unless you have the Auto power switch turned on.
The 6 speed is way better when in low range going down hill, engine breaking is almost as good as a manual.
I think you have to thank a mix of the extra engine torque and 6 speed auto

Enjoy the Hilux
