If you can, don't go all steel, they weigh too much,
And look at options to add side later, as with power coat if you deceid to add down the track, sand blasting powerboat takes longer so cost more to have redone

If your not happy with what you see for sale and good toolbox fab shop could wipe you up one in 2-3day then go and have it power coated yourself

I made mine, alloy side and floor, steel frame, gal dipped the frame, under $200 to build but $800 do gal dip,
My under tray boxes were $880 to buy, 3mm top, 2.5 rest of box Image
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

Without knowing which state you are from it's a bit hard to recommend someone local. In SA I can vouch for Dekker Motor Bodies who have been in the trade for 50 odd years and make a quality product. http://www.dekkermotorbodies.com.au/

Bra, you won't see much change from $6k for a standard steel tray from most manufacturers, add more for tool box's, rear head board etc.
I think their face book page mentions some prices.

Are you serious?

Trays down here from just about every manufacturer are between $2800-$3000 fitted and powder coated. A custom built with a drawer on rollers, angled departure boxes and headboard fuel tank is about $6500k fitted here.

Edit - and that's with rhs butted in the sides, hammer tone powder coat, heavy duty over centre latches, work light tabs, the whole works, plus you've got design of the headboard etc. those prices you've quoted are downright ridiculous, and a massive ripoff.

2800-3000 seems on the cheap side but not too cheap it won't be made right, about 3500 with sides and twin head racks sounds closer to right
When your talking 3 days Labor from start to finish, fitted left raw no lighting
That $1700 in labour alone on the lower end, and I know my boss charges me out at more then that per hr
Then you have freight to and from power coater or gal dip, $400-500 in steel depending on design
If it going to be power coated probley it need to blasted piror to coating
Then lighting, there is cheap and expensive,
Narva add $3-400 for there LEDs or Chinese for $50 witch bolt straight into narva bolt pattern
All adds up quick

Jacko9 is on the money.
Stuff built in the bush is generally cheaper and tougher than the big smoke.
Tray as pictured is just over $4000 with two boxes. Same price for a range of different builds. It is impossible to fault the build or the finish.

6k for a tray! You have got to be f-ing joking! Considering the manufacturers would be getting the materials way cheaper than the average person, the last normal tray I built similar to the one above would have been lucky to hit 1k in materials including lights etc! 6k is just offensive!

Hey cobba, I don't build em just telling you what the top manufacturers using Australian materials for not your average run of the mill trays - similar to Bronco quality & style are quoting.
From what I can see on old mates face book page, Bronco trays he's up there in price.

Out of interest whats the name of the manufacturer that quotes those spec's you mention for $3k, Ill personally go and look at one of them for a mate. My gut tells me they'd be shit house quality, basic styling, and most probly using chinese steel/material's.

Well there was a little change from 6k

Standard tray $3675
Add fitting, the LED tail lights, tapered bottom toolboxes, rear ladder rack and it adds up a little.

Very happy with the tray, lots of stainless fittings, hot dip gal floor, stainless mud flaps, tuff as f
Nice blokes at bronco, pleasure to deal with and they lent me a ute on fitting day.
My only minor complaint was the electrical connections were slightly amateurish, and cables were a mess. I have redone them but I'm a bit ocd

So AA, what size front headboard and infil mesh design do you get for that standard price of $3675?
Hahaha, Little change from $6k (wouldn't be much after you add the bolt on's), yeh sounds pretty similar to the numbers I was quoted when I was shoppin.
Tray looks good.
