What Did You Do WITH you Gen 8 Hilux Today?

Postby sugaris on Mon, 27 Jun 2016 6:57 +0000

We have a thread about what did you do to your gen 8 but none on what did you do WITH your gen 8 today.

So I'll start... Yesterday myself, my dad and my oldest son went on a 4x4 tour just north of Townsville. We spent the day finding tracks and exploring around our region. We started out by going up into the mountains and checking out the old forestry road then back down into the national park towards Rolling stone for lunch on the beach... Here are some pictures of our day.

Image

our first crack at the track that starts with a nice climb... in the back ground is my dad's troopy.

up we go!

the Troopy going at it also...

the Old girl and the New Lux both sitting at the top.

check out that View!

Image

oops... dad beached himself here... Lux to the rescue! snatch strap and a little pull she was free.

Image

down onto the beach for lunch.

Cooking up a storm... Snags, Bacon... not a salad to be seen!

The end of our day... Dad spent 5 minutes pumping tyres back up while i grabbed this last shot of my Hilux... So much filth! Next up is a camping trip further up the coast towards Cardwell. There is some nice spots up that way that we shall camp at soon.

How does the Hilux compare to the Troopy with its offroad ability (i.e. IFS vs solid axle)? My old solid axle 100 series was an absolute weapon offroad. I have yet to drive my Hilux off the bitumen.

The Troopy is a great off road vehicle and so is the Hilux. We both did the same obstacles and didn't have any issues. The troopy weighs more plus the extra stuff he was carrying for lunch and that was evident on the beach but with correct tyre pressures the old girl is a beast. The Hilux is a fully fledged off road vehicle now so don't worry about taking it off road. There are many reviews online backing up this statement.

With the suspension its hard for me to compare your Hilux to mine as I have fitted the Old Man Emu BP-51 by-pass suspension to mine and I can tell you that they are worth every cent. The ride is so much better, corrugated roads are a breeze and the handling is better.

It's not today, so probably doesn't qualify, but I took the truck to Levuka a couple of weeks ago to roll out the swag and test it out a bit.

Totally stock, hit some of the underbody protection plates a couple of times while in wheel ruts, but no dents or damage.

All in all it did well for straight off the floor.

It's Levuka, a camping spot with a few tracks just south west of Wodenbong in northern NSW.

Quick day trip up to Redhead beach this weekend with a mates Navara. Good to finally test the Bf KO2's off the black stuff, big difference on the sand from the highway terrains. Here's a few photos

5th trip in this thing. Every time I'm blown away by its capability. 4lo and the locker work sensational....just walked up a few large hill climbs with wheels on and off the ground, and just plows through sand. Worth every cent.

C'mon crew ... SURELY your all using your rigs for SOMETHING a bit more often than this thread would suggest?

I've done a surf check in my today (no surfing - small onshore junk) and then took her in for some window tint.

Took it for a run down a rough old dirt road.

This is a stock SR5.

Geez, compared to the MN Triton I came from, she felt like a limo.

Handle the bumps n stuff really well.

Tyre pressures were up at normal road condition levels so a bit of bounce as expected.

But.

Geez, it felt so much better over the rough stuff.

Stock tyres were a bit slipper on the loose stuff. That's to be expected.

Overall, it felt really good and SO much smoother. Very happy. :D
