Video Playback

Postby correy on Fri, 13 May 2016 9:20 +0000

Has anyone successfully been able to play a video from there smartphone to the head unit. The manual tells you to purchase a 4 -pole aux cable and displays a illustration. Not sure where to purchase this cable. Any assistance would be great.

I purchased a 4 pole to RCA lead and cut and switched the wires to match the manuals description but have not been able to find on that works straight out of the shop. The dealer didn't have a clue when I asked them about the lead. With an apple to rca lead in now able to play video for the passengers whilst I drive. Any thing that has 3 rca out can be played now.

Has anyone tried to attach one of these to the headphone jack:

as well as the standard iPhone USB cord?

I have not tried any of these methods but I think this might work for those trying to connect an apple device to the 2016 Hilux multimedia screen through the standard inbuilt aux jack.

If you have a device with a 30-pin connector (iPhone 3G/3Gs/4/4s or iPad 1/2/3) you will need:
1. Apple Composite AV Cable
http://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MC ... e-av-cable
2. 4-pole 3.5mm AUX Male to 3-RCA Female Cable
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331551627982

For all newer Apple devices with a lightning (8-pin) connector you will need:
1. 8-pin Lightning to HDMI Cable
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222095883007
2. HDMI to analog converter or something similar to this
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/131399318364
3. 4-pole 3.5mm AUX male to 3-RCA Male Cable
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291617409910

Again, I have not tried these but it looks like adamwcct has had success with the first method.

If anyone else is successful don't forget to let us know by posting in here.

Thanks for the posts, after looking into the recent posts I think the below will also work for iPhone 5/5C/5S/6/6 Plus/iPad

http://www.adcmobile.com/hdmi-av/

http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD826 ... av-adapter

Costly way but seems this method and above unfortunately is the only way to go.

Yes that cable will also work. You will also need a 4-pole to RCA adaptor and a seperate usb cable to power your phone. They seem to be only one who sell that cable and they only ship to US and Candian addresses so you will have to use a forwarding company ship it to Australia.

What a mess all those cables will create!!!

I wonder if there is a way to hardware in an Apple TV unit via the av input and just link your phone to it wirelessly??

If only they would just put a VLC app on the head unit and you could play movies direct from the USB.... but smart thinking isnt really a car companies strong point

I'm sure someone will "hack" the head deck soon enough and before long we will be able to jail break it.

So the video and audio all go via the 3.5mm jack?

I've managed to get the videos recognized by the system and it reads them off my ipod touch. The newer apple products are not compatible so check your hilux book. The video doesn't play properly as I don't have the aux cable - 4 pole.

I think once i get that it should work fine. Only annoying thing you have to convert videos to play on apple products!!!

Correct. It will mirror your device onto your head unit.

I've tried this with an iPhone 6. It works but video quality is so terrible it is not worth the trouble or money.

1. Lightning to HDMI Cable
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222095883007
2. HDMI to analog converter or something similar to this

Boardogs if the 4pole to rca is not wired as the manual suggests it will not work. I had to cut the wires and with a multi meter worked out I needed to switch the ground with the video. 4pole to rca leads are usually wired different to what the head unit requires. I believe this was an apple configuration from their very early devices and cannot find a lead for sale anywhere.
Heavymetal yes I use an iPad running Netflix etc

Adam, I assume you are using an iPad 1/2/3 with just the first two cables in my first post. How's the picture quality? Does yours cut in and out?

I wonder if the horrible quality I am getting is due to the cheap/nasty eBay converter and cables.

Also, instead of modifying the rca cable I just switched the rca plugs around until I got picture and sound. ie plug yellow into white.
