Mine is a March 2015 build...been perfect so far...auto transmission. So how do you know when you are doing a burn??

When i come to a stop and it's idle picks up to 1200rpm. Also I notice it while driving when fuel consumption is up a tad and it sounds slightly different. When it wants to burn off...I let it do it until it settles back down to idle. No more than 10-15min. While it's hot enough to burn off, might as well let it.

Some tech bulletins etc i found on the toyota tech site after paying for it :D

BE-0025T-0317 (I got this one, so gonna get that sorted)
TSS warning message due to blocked vision

Some customers may experience and report that under cold and humid driving conditions, the Road-Sign Assist
(RSA) and the Lane Keep Assist (LKA) functions intermittently fail to detect road signs and/or the lane markers
of the road. The symptom is due to a natural phenomenon that condensation can form inside the windscreen,
temporarily obstructing the view of the forward recognition camera.

CP-0070T-1016 (fixed by ECU update)
AC60 Automatic transmission shift shock 2nd-3rd , 4th-3rd gear

Some customers may experience and report shocks shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear or from 4th to 3rd gear while
driving. Applicable vehicles equipped with AC60 6th speed automatic transmission.

EG-0026T-0416
"DPF FULL SEE OWNER'S MANUAL" or "DPF FULL VISIT YOUR DEALER" and DTC P2463.

Some customers may experience and report warning message “DPF FULL SEE OWNER’S MANUAL” or “DPF
FULL VISIT YOUR DEALER” are shown on the multi information display.
Sometimes combined with MIL ON, DTC P2463 “Diesel particulate filter restriction – soot accumulation”.

The last one has not been confirmed for what VIN's are affected yet, but it's another ECU update.

I've had my new hilux sr5 since Nov '15.... I've had it back 4 times for the tailshaft and finally had the new replacement installed last week....its fine now, just took too long to get replaced. Auto trans software upgrade done. Fitted roo bar/winch, rear step bar, LR tank, draws & canopy. Fuel ecy & in live in hilly country 11L / 100 km.... my old hilux was better.
Overall like the car...heading bush in 2 weeks into the flinders ranges on station tracks. Let's see how it performs. Cheers

How do you notice the tailshaft problem? Is it a noise you hear or something else? I got mine in september so i most likely have the same issue.

When you stop at traffic lights and you take your foot off the brake, you get a thud...someone explained it like a gas bottle rolling in the rear tub.

Ok, out for a test drive then i go :)
I do get a thud when going from reverse to forward but i was told that is most likely due to pressure built up in the gearing?

When I came to a complete stop at traffic lights & took my foot off the brake ready to excellorate, I would feel the thud which the dealership explained it as the spline in the extendable tailshaft grabbing due to manufacturing issues.

I was on the freeway yesterday and started braking (100k/h) in prep to pull off and had major vibration thru the pedal. I'm not a mechanic but it felt like the front discs need machining.
Car has only done 20k??? Is this common????

Known issue so yes. Spoke to my dealer and Toyota didn't let the discs rest long enough on some batches when putting them on so they warp a bit and need machining. I would probably buy a new set of a higher grade.

Just back from 7 day Flinders Ranges trip. First real hitout for the car in some challenging terrain. Car was faultless, average fuel 12.4 & did over 2000km. My vehicle has a canopy with draws & the genuine Toyota dust defence kit worked a treat. Did some challenging tracks & clearance wasn't a problem even with the long range tank fitted. Overall very pleased.

You are either missing the burn offs or you have a problem that needs checking out.
The Roo.

Agree with the Roo!
I also travel Gold Coast to Brisbane and back each day and find it is an accumalitive thing. Sometimes it happens doing the commute, whilst every now and then you come off the M1, get to the first set of lights at Gold Coast (where change over times can be long!), and then the revs go up for the burn, and you get the jet engine feel from the noise going through the snorkel.
Must admit, I have a Safari Snorkel and the noise is much more profound during the burn because the air intake is now closer
As Roo points out, if you are not experiencing a burn, take it to Toyota.
The Guys at Robina are pretty good
Cheers

I'm also looking at upgrading from my 2007 sr dual cab .
Does anyone have info on compatability of the two vehicles.?
I want to keep my old Arb bull bar and my alley tray and my Toyota cab roof racks. Swap onto the new model, will they fit??

Hi Guys
I have just purchase a new Toyota Hilux SR5 2017 model auto.
I have only done about 500k and had it in for its first free service.
The problems that I am have are
1. Hilux rocks forward harshly after releasing footbrake when Hilux is in "Park" gear with handbrake up?
Also does this in reverse.
2. I was using the cruise control on this issue and was travel at 100kph 1500rpm's.
When suddenly the car sounded like it was driving over those bumps on the side of the road to wake you up if your about to drive off the road. At first I thought it was the road but it did it again about 10 minutes later.
This noise went on for about 30 seconds and then slowly disappeared the revs did in crease to 2000rmps then back to 1500rmps it did this on a flat road no hills.
The service depart told me this is normal (bull shit) it did scare the shit out of me.
Does anyone else have this with the same model?
Any advice will be graetfull.

Thanks for feed back.
Robert

Yes I've noticed that my 3 week old SR5 does this. Not sure if it's normal.

Regarding the parking - you should place it in Neutral, pull handbrake up. let the car settle then chuck it into park. especially on hills.

Great that you need a special technique to drive a Hilux.
Pretty sure you don't need to go to such rubbish in any other car.
