If anyone is experiencing poor economy, I have for the last 8 month been averaging 9.4l/100km...which i was quite happy with...economy doesn't phase me too much, however, recently disconnected my battery overnight when fitting a few things and the last two weeks economy has dropped to 8.2l/100km without changing a thing. Same driving technique, same route. Give it a try. This was in a manual sr5.

I ended up taking my car to two different dealers here on Gold Coast regarding the fuel problem.
The first dealer had a massive smirk on his face before i could even finish saying "Whats the go with the fuel capacity and needle reading". He admitted he had seen many Lux's in for this problem however failed to admit it was a genuine Toyota Fk up. Told me some fuel tank adjustments could be done to 'improve' the problem however said there was no formal toyota fix.
The second dealer informed me that the problem was my fuel pick up line was 'kinked' and that was the problem. I told her to book me in again for the following week because that wasn't the problem.
Has anyone had a genuine fix for this? Essentially...i never know how much fuel is in the tank. Gauge tells me I'm bone dry, trip tells me i should of conked out 200km's ago...yet i still have 20 odd litres in the tank..

I have an SR5 2017 Manual 2.8 Turbo Diseasel dual cab with hard tonneau. I run it as standard (no power mode or IMT) and i'm getting 8.1-8.5 L/100. Done 4,000Km. I'm not a tradie so I only really carry my Engel and other camping shite around in the back. Wants to fill up a little early considering it has a 80L tank. I can only ever get 60 Litres in it when the light comes on. Otherwise i'm pretty happy with the fuel consumption considering i used to drive a 6 litre V8. Gee i miss that V8

Mate, you get that in a $350000 kenworth. It's a basic fix.

Just filled up the second tank since delivery. the car speedo is running 4k's out when doing 100km/h so I've added 4% to the cars readout for k's travelled. Anyway, 691km's and filled up 66.51lt's. fuel consumption is 9.63lt per 100k's.
The car isn't loaded with any tools so just me as the driver.

I have 2017 workmate 2.4 auto 4x4 and can't get better than 11L/100km (i.e. about 550-570km before empty light turns on). This is according to the trip computer and my manual calculations. Car will normally take 60L at this point.

i.e. (60L/570km)x100=10.52L/100km OR 570/60=9.5km/L

Tray is completely empty except for maybe a 5kg rubber mat, but I have a steel bullbar, ~32" tyres (but with alloys) so should be around the same rotational mass as stock tyres with steelies? and lift. From what I read each of these mods is worth approx a 0.5L hit to fuel economy, but not sure how true this is.

EDIT: Forgot to add ~3500kms on the ODO atm.

When driving 100km to 105 km use 5th gear NOT 6th gear and watch your economy rise!!!! 2017 dual cab manual

Obviously the manual is far more efficient than the confused auto, I'm averaging 12.7 L/PH, in an auto SR5 with ARB Bar and 2" OME Lift and AT tyre's. The economy has got worse over the time, it's now up to 60,000 km's

I just filled mine for the 3rd time since purchasing it new.

The computer says 9.4L/100 but I worked it out as 8.9L/100. Computer hasn't been reset since I got it when it said 14.5L/100 on pickup so not too surprised.
1930km on ODO mostly highway driving to Wollongong from Helensburgh with the odd trip to Sydney on a stock 2.8 SR5 Diesel auto with hard cover, not using power or eco modes.
Mostly I drive like grandma as buying a 2 ton truck means that I'm in no hurry.
I do like the power mode as it really has some get up and go but annoying how I have to keep turning it on to use it so I don't really bother.

Trip from Adelaide to Phillip Island then up for a week tootling around the Dandenongs and home via Naracoorte. Sitting on 110 on the open road (mostly...) with a lot of heavy tool boxes and spare parts on the tray. 2,500 km roughly all up and the average usage for the entire trip was 8.7 - this is in a single cab manual 4x4.

I did the same trip in my Gen7 4.0 V6 2WD 2 years ago and averaged 13.6 with the fuel more expensive per litre as well.

Overall including the mpg change and the fuel costs it cost me less than half for this trip over last time so I'm more than happy with that.

Missus and I went to Turon Gates in the weekend and saw mixture of sealed and unsealed roads using the 4H on the unsealed but otherwise mostly highway, Drove it pretty sedately as the missus was with me but went to Aurburn this morning and drove it like I stole it as I was late for an appointment.
Fuel light came on but kept going until the computer told me I had 4 km left until empty. 64l to fill and 820km. Stoked, it's cheaper per $ over 100km to run than my last 4 cylinder petrol manual running 95. SR5 auto with 3000km.

Just a question, how long does the engine take to free up, I've noticed a vibration at around 2000rpm that goes away below and above this rpm.

i consistently seem to get 10.4-10.6 around town. (shown on the Dash)

installed a scan gauge and now get 8.2-8.4

Go figure?

is this why i can only get 57-60lts into a tank when the light comes on

Maybe the scan gauge is more optimistic?

As to the fuel light, you still have 18ltrs left so what's wrong with that? Check your REAL fuel consumption by fuel in divided by hundreds of kilometers.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

I don't trust what that says either although mine has dropped to 9.1 from 9.3 after the weekend. Still it's a challenge to drop it further!
