Gen 8 Hilux Fuel economy

Postby Ray230 on Sun, 01 May 2016 6:30 +0000

Hi All,

Sorry if this has already been posted, I had a flick through and couldn't see anything. Seems to be alot of threads on the new hilux, and not good! I have the 2016 SR auto dual cab 2.8. I can only ever put in 57L and getting maybe 500-550 k's out of the tank if I really stretch it. Ute has done about 15000k's and I am not happy with it to say the least, having all the other issues mentioned in other threads. For a first time toyota and hilux owner, its very disappointing. Would be much appreciated if others could let me know what they are getting out of a tank of fuel. Thanks in advance

Usually between 650 and 800 km, and fill up about 60 to 75l.

Fuel light cmes on super early. Usually when I have 18l left.

After the fuel light comes on you should have around 45km till is says refuel, then set the trip B to zero, I can easily get another 100 odd km's out of the tank and still only put 75 ltrs in.

WOW. I wonder why I can usually only put 57-60L even when its almost empty? As in with about 20k's left to go on the range meter. Back to toyota it goes, for the 4th time. Any other suggestions?

Sorry to hear you've had other issues aswell, I'm unsure as to what they are...I have had nothing but smooth sailing. Freakin love the thing. All I can say is autos do use a bit more fuel, maybe not that much, but small things can contribute to higher fuel consumption, tyre pressures for one, air filter blocked, lifting your vehicle, larger tyres, different tyres...but one of my speculations is the dpf. Even a partially blocked dpf can cause excessive fuel consumption. The sooner they find a way of getting rid of it the better. Just my thoughts.

Has been like this since new. Everyone kept telling me it would get better as the engine wore in. I have no mods apart from alloy tray and steel ironman bull bar.

It does have an 80l tank, so you should be able to get another 200km before dry. Everyone seems to get a fuel light with about 20l left.

I am happy with this, as I prefer to not let diesels run to empty.

Mine is getting about 10l/100km average. Best is 9.2 on the hwy. worst is 11.3 around town. Mine is dual cab sr auto. With ironman bullbar, siderails, steel tray with headboard and tray sitting outside the cab size.

According to the owners manual the fuel light should come on when approx 12 litres are remaining., however when mine comes on I struggle to get 60 litres in. I did mention to my dealer last week and was told they have done a report about it as a number of people have complained regarding the same concern, fuel light appearing early when 20 litres still remain.

I get about 700-750k's from a tank - however I do think the fuel light comes on early as well... Could probably squeeze a few more K's out of each tank but don't like driving in Sydney Traffic with the light on for too long!

After 10,000kms, i'm averaging 9.8-10L/100ks

I could understand the fuel light coming on too early, but surely the km's to empty meter shouldn't be wrong?

It's wrong on the N70's as well. Again it's probably a safety measure that serves more as an annoyance than a help!

I agree its probably not the fuel olight coming but the distance to empty that's annoying, after mine says "Refuel" I can nearly 150 km's

Ok thanks for the tip. Any particular model or type of scan gauge I should look for? And who is a reputable retailer of this?

Mine has 3K on the clock and i am getting 8.1 L/100K - SR5 Dual Cab manual with a hard tonneau cover and I am sure this helps with fuel economy

Richard
A good question. Just in normal mode with the IMT ON. I do live in the country and not many traffic lights here.
