Sounds pretty high mate- 2017 SR5 auto here with 22k on the clock, bullbar/roofracks but thats about it- get around 8.8/9.2L per 100km when not towing. As suggested work out your figures yourself & dont rely on the speedo figures.

Thanks guys, didn't realise how active this thread was. I've been told to fill up again incase it was bad fuel so ill fill up, and reset odometer and see how I go. Rather annoying because I has 14/15 sr5 before this one and I was getting 650 constantly.
Cheers

Just a quick update, I just fuelled up and reset the odometer, but here’s the funny thing, it took 30L... that’s after only doing 150kms max. Does anyone know what my next step should be

Yeah not too flash on those numbers but, if you've filled up to the first click then drive around as per usual until it hits a 1/4 on the gauge refill and check the numbers.

Ok, quick update.
I have been absolutely babying the car to try get my numbers under 10l/100km (keeping within the eco bar) Its just almost impossible, after resetting I'm at 12.5l/100km and that's trying to keep revs under 1500 (sorry to the people behind me)

BUT here's the new thing, i'm puffing heaps of smoke from take off. Almost every traffic light and its an embarrassing amount too, enough to get beeped.

Ive read a few threads and some people have said they had same issues and it was relating to their DPF and holding the 5th injector? and with this issue they also experienced the smoke and high fuel consumption...
I took the pipe from turbo to cooler to see that there wasn't too much oil incase there was turbo seal bust and there was a fair bit of oil, but the high kms and smoke symptom certainly seems more like DPF 5th injector etc

Taking it to the dealer this week.

Ill keep updating for future worried peeps.

Hi mate,

With a 3” turbo back exhaust and DPF/EGR delete I’m getting 12L/100km at low pressure off road on 265/70/17 KM2s.

On road at 38psi I’m getting 8.5 - 9.0L/100km. And I’ve got a buttload more torque from about 1200rpm...

Forget the dealer, take it to a tuner and get rid of the stupid thing.

That’s interesting, it would void warranty yes?

My "after reset" thingy on the dash indicates 11.2L/100.
Its never been reset, so i can only assume its over the life (46000kms) so far.

Factory 18'' wheels and tyres for about 95% of the time
TRD 17'' Wheels with tyres that give the same width and rolling diameter as above for about 5% of the time

Auto, Alloy bullbar, Canopy.

Yes i can get 8-9Lts/100.......But i can also get 23Lts/100 up hills and heavy accelleration etc.

11.2 aint bad, but could be better

On associated components it will. Turbo and clutch for example will not be covered. But unrelated parts will still be warranted. If you’re having constant issues with the DPF anyway I’d say it’s worthwhile.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

When I first picked up my new hilux late 2015, I was lucky to 10L per 100. I then added a steel tray, 50mm lift, bullbar, roof racks and larger tyres (265x70x17), this blew out my consumption to late 12s-13s. I complained on services but nothing was done. I rang up to book my 60k service last week and again, stated my concerns. The service lady then said there was an ECU upgrade recall which should fix the economy issues. In one service, my consumption went from around 450km to the E line to getting 620km. I'm happier my economy is better but why did it take Toyota so long to fix this issue or has this update been out and my dealer has neglected to tell me?

Hey guys so I thought I would update as things have been rectified.
Firstly I had the dpf full warning light come on whilst on the freeway so I called the Toyota dealer and service centre and they said bring it in, that were free at the time so I did.
Basically just a firmware software kinda upgrade and has been the dpf the whole time.
It’s still early days but after babying the car I’m at 9l/100km which is sooo much better than the 14+l haha.

Funny enough for the 30 seconds I was at the desk dropping off the key they had another phone call which I could infer which would be similar to mine, and they told that person to bring it in etc

All covered under warranty. My car has 45k kms so if your car is still under warranty you might not experience this problem yet but might be worth getting the firmware upgrade etc.

Thanks for the help lads!

Thought I might update here as I saw another dpf issue come up in another thread. Now I'm averaging 8.2l per 100km after a few thousand kms so that's pretty consistent. I just ticked 775km and filled 63L, which is a huge improvement from the approx 500km I was getting before, with the smoke.
Apparently now there is a small recall on the dpf part so it might be worth getting it looked at if you have the new model without the software and firmware upgrade.

What do all you guys get per tank?
What do you think about having approx 15L in reserve when it says almost empty haha?

I had the update done late November and I've dropped from 12.5 to 10.5. Torque shows burns going as low as 2% and they are a lot quicker. I just fill up when gauge hits 1/4 usually takes 55 litres.Image

Oh cool is that readout from an aftermarket app? Suburban driving is no good for the 2.8l but sitting between 80-100 freeway kms it’s super efficient circa 5L/100
