General discussion of basically anything related to the 2015> Hilux

My 2016 SR5 auto twin cab was doing 8.5-9.5L /100 but after fitting draws and a fibreglass canopy with roof racks it jumped up to 12L/100 in my anger i got a HKS FCON chip and now its down to 9L when driving "smoothly" if i have a lead foot it will jump to 13L.

Now i think its getting better economy because the auto doesn't hunt for gears and you can drive it in lower revs due to the extra torque

in eco mode the hilux will struggle to get over 160km/hr in pwr mode it will go over 180km/hr with out the FCON chip...

thats my 2cents i have 13,000km on the clock...

Have you done the update for the gear problems? That should probably help a lot too.

The ol girl and I drove the Gen 8 to Sydney from the Gold Coast last week and we averaged 7.8.
On the way home with about 400kg of shit in the back, 8. Total time 9hr 28min with two stops on the way home and an average 91kph.

Hi have a November 2016 auto sr Hilux with alloy tray and canopy full of tools weighing about 500kg heavier then an empty tub, and get between 10.8-11.6L/100km.

But the car does 1900-2000rpm at 100km/he which I think seems a bit high, and also seems to do a lot of DPF regenerations. (Notice the average chart thing doesn't drop to zero when slowing to traffic lights, and burning smell when getting out of car)

I've tried a few tanks in "Normal" mode & averaged 8.9L/100kms. In Econ mode I average 8.2L/100kms.

So, as a rough guide to others, there should be 0.7L/100km (call it "half a litre") difference between Econ & Normal.

2016 SR dual cab auto. All km's at just under 120km/h everyday. Couldn't get under 13L/100km, spent 90% of the time in 5th gear. Toyota did software upgrade and it now uses 6th about half the trip and down to around 12L/100km. Local dealer says Toyota is aware of DTE issue also but unsure whether there will be a fix.
Disappointing when one of the guys at work just bought the new Colorado and is getting as low as 7L/100km over same trip.

What can I do? My 2016 SR5 DC has had very high fuel consumption since new. Very best I have got is 10.2 litres/100. Dealer said it would get better by 20000 but now after 33000 cannot get anywhere near the 7.8 Toyota claims in advertising. I bought mine because if claimed low fuel consumption. Not happy with Toyota. Previously had a 2012 Mazda BT50 GT and it was lower than 9 under similar conditions over 90000 km. Toyota has done nothing to help despite alerting them to the problem. I have been told there were a few 2.8 engines that are using too much fuel. Any suggestions please.

Have you guys seen how they get their economy numbers! Its in a closed room on a rolling road for god knows how long doin 68kph and every now and then they run it up to 100kph for 10 mins then back to 68kph. Out on the road pushing all four tyres along the road and a 2plus tonne brick thru the air, YEAH RITE!! Every car is tested the same way and then they print that sticker to put on the windscreen that is there for one reason only, to impress you!!

I think that you will just have to ignore your fuel consumption .
I am not sure where Toyota found this motor.
How they can get such poor performance , terrible fuel economy. Shockingly noticable DPF burns every 200-300km beggars belief in this day and age.
Go try any modern BMW or Mercedes Diesel and you well see how backward Toyota really are with this motor.

You will all say how long it will last etc ,etc . Plenty of high K Mercedes Vans on the road too.

Toyota are years behind in there tech. To make matters worse though have a look at all the rubish under the bonnet . That wont cause any trouble will it ???

They're all different. Gen 7 some people get 800kms out of a tank....I've never got more than 560...EVER.

And fuel consumption is so variable a thing. Apart from the effects of tyre pressure, load, drag, etc., there's also the fact that published fuel consumption figures are tested under controlled conditions and really can't be said to reflect the driving that most people do. A lot of car review websites note that their own Gen 8 Hiluxes tend to be rather thirsty.

It's really just something you have to sit with and accept. Now, if your fuel consumption was out by, say, 10 litres then you will probably have some recourse available as that's just unacceptable.

It's science. Resistance is the car pushing into air, if there was no air we'd all be traveling at the speed of light.

What I've noticed is the people with bull bars, trade racks (roof racks, ladder racks etc) and those with canopies are posting the higher fuel costs.

At the moment 95% of my driving is done in peak-hour Melbourne traffic. I also have a bull bar and trade racks.
I'm at 2,500km and my economy has drifted out to 12.1L/100km.
I'll wear that, I'm carrying 200kgs around town at half the cost my V8 ute used too. Smaller cars might be able to do a little bit better but I don't drive a smaller car, I drive a two tonne truck.

I have a 2017 manual sr5 dual cab and filled tank up in Frankston to drive to Ocean grove past Geelong . My car is 2 weeks old with 800 klms on it, the trip was 300 km in total and I used 23 ltr excactly. So I got 13 km per litre which I'm very happy with it and the only mod is a Safari Snorkle so far . I've driven car for mild to hard since day one ny changing gears to rev 2500 to 3200 rpm , 2000 rpm to 2200 while cruising. I will now drop revs back to 2500 revs for changing for the next 5000 km with the odd lead foot now n then .

Can't say you are correct there as i got nothing on my car except a canopy. When i bought the car i drove home for 7 hours, my consumption then was about 7.5 to 8. Now during the winter it went up to 1.2-1.3, sure i had proper winter tires on but now on my a/t tires i gone down to 0.95-1.2 still. And as i said that is with a stock car.

2016 Workmate fuel consumption query

Postby Lukeyghe on Sun, 14 May 2017 1:26 +0000

Afternoon gents and ladies. Apologise if I've posted this in the wrong area, move it if required.
I've just purchased by 1st hilux. A brand new 2016 single cab chassis workmate.
I haven't had a problem with the vehicle besides a few weird fuel hassles. It's an auto petrol and I cannot get over 550km out of a tank. Even if I drive it like a grandma in Eco mode she chews easily 12L+/100km. But the most confusing thing is when I fill her up. The fuel needle will be on top, or just past the E and the computer trip will be "---" indicating she's bone dry...however on fill up I can only get 60-65L in the tank indicating I've got anywhere from 15-20L in the tank (80L tank)
Is this normal? Should I be taking it back to Toyota? I reckon this is why I'm getting tired fuel economy as essentially I've got another 100km in tank. I'm a bit confused with it as all previous cars have never had this happen.
Any help or previous experiences with this would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Welcome lukeyghe, best do a search as this thread is actually still current in the new posts list and an intro in the appropriate thread before posting for answers as you'll get a better result.
