I'm around 10.1 to 11.3l city driving in normal mode. Consumption I'm OK with but the timing of when the fuel light comes on and distance to empty accuracy is what bothers me.

Shouldn't matter too much as it only affects throttle response. So if you're easy on the pedal it should do about the same economy.

I have the 2.8 in auto.

I get anywhere from 8.5l/100 (HWY/town) to 13-14l/100 with the boat.

I have the same issue when filling.
- Fuel gage less that 1/4 of a tank left / range estimate 50km --> can only put in 57L.

Where is the other 20L? I had just assumed it was a 60L tank, but now im worried.

Mine's been going down now it tell me i'm at 7.6l/100km. I've been exclusively on Eco mode and being very gentle anticipating traffic and the lights.

Well I had it in at Toyota yesterday. It's the correct fuel tank fitted and they checked a bunch of stuff. They couldn't fault anything, surprise surprise. It sounds like the DTE and fuel light must be a fault with them. Also asked them why only a 2500kg towbar was fitted. Do they have kids working on these cars or what ?

i have had mine only since Feb, its a work bus done about 15K it has a tradie canopy on it weighs around full weight, gets around 15l/100km more with trailer, but thats 2l less than the 3 other ranger mazdas and 5 less than the navara. Yes it does need a bigger tank for me and it does still have 15 usable L left when it says refill, but the best ute in the fleet.

Yeah, I also think toyota should have put in a bigger tank. The fuel light comes on when there's still 20L left in the tanks. I also drive a Camry Hybrid it also does the same. The fuel light comes on when there's still another 250km in the tank. I'm burning fuel carting fuel around the place.

I have had one for 17k now, I do almost exclusively highway driving (like 90%). I get 11.2l per 100. Eco or power doesn't matter. At 550 the distance empty is like 20k. I fill up Monday morning and drive 50k to work and the gauge has gone down an 1/8th of a tank. The gauge is crap, the DTE is crap and the economy is woeful compared to the 3.0l 2014 model I had prior.

I do note that the converter lock is not that crash hot. At 100kph the revs can be at around 2000, you lift your foot and it drops to like 1650 and stays there until load demand drops it back out.

Really am disappointed, my 2006 personal hilux with canopy, lift, drawers etc gets better economy.

I have gone from a 2012 manual to a 2016 auto and was told by the salesman the new one will be better on fuel. Th e old one was much better on fuel, i was hoping it might get better as it loosens up but doesnt sound too promising reading a few of these posts. Mixed driving i am using around 12-13L 100. The old one was around 10-11 in the same scenario. So far im a bit underwhelmed.

So after reading the other posts about people getting 100+ k's after fuel light went on etc, I thought I would share my experience. I have only done this once so far, but I drove about 100k's after the DTE went to 0. When I fuelled up, I had about 5-6 litres left in the tank. So I am estimating I will get around 650k's mixed driving if I keep doing this. And probably still around 500-550 towing the trailer ( 1.5T). I am proposing that the fuel gauge is way out of wack, and the DTE sensor not much better.

Sorry if this has already been posted, I had a flick through and couldn't see anything. Seems to be alot of threads on the new hilux, and not good! I have the 2016 SR auto dual cab 2.8. I can only ever put in 57L and getting maybe 500-550 k's out of the tank if I really stretch it. Ute has done about 15000k's and I am not happy with it to say the least, having all the other issues mentioned in other threads. For a first time toyota and hilux owner, its very disappointing. Would be much appreciated if others could let me know what they are getting out of a tank of fuel. Thanks in advance

Depends what type of driving you are doing. If it's stop-start city driving and a lot of idling that is about right. When you do this type of driving the DPF filters fowl your system up pretty quickly. The results are rough idling and higher than normal fuel economy. You need to go on a good drive at 100km for a good 30min + to get your temps up to burn out all the crap... Otherwise your air/fuel ratios will be out due to higher temperatures in your exhaust system

I've been getting 60L per fill (averaging 8.1L/100kms). SR dual cab manual hi-rider.

I might start seeing how far beyond 0-DTE I can get.

Also I don't have a tonneau cover - would a soft cover assist with an improvement in fuel economy? Not interested in a hardcover. I'm fairly stoked with 8.1L but if I could manage 7.9 it'd be a psychological win.

my 2016 SR dual cab Manual is averaging 8.8km/100.

My last tank I got 730kms. However, I have never been able to put in more than 64 litres in the fuel tank.

I have run the DTE down to 0 and the fuel guage past the empty line and it still only allows me to put in 64 Litres.

I have been driving my brothers 2016 auto dual cab with alloy tray for a couple of weeks while he is away (7500km in the clock), and the best I can is 10.5-11L/100km. I have been doing the same type of driving as I would with my 2014 SR5 which gets 9.5L under the same settings. So they do drink a little more.

But I am only basing this on what the screen tells me, and I have noticed that it is much more sensitive than the computer on mine. It is constantly changing where mine wouldn't change its figure that much at all. For example, in my hilux, the average would sought itself out by 200km after reset, where the new one is constantly changing right to the end of the tank. You can be hovering around 10.5l after 500km, put your boot in up a big hill and it jumps to 11ish and wont come down for ages. So maybe the new computer is more sensitive but still has to calculate fuel usage from that figure (and over estimating fuel usage). But this doesn't explain the fuel light

the DTE seems to run off the fuel gauge and speedometer, as whatever the DTE says after a fill never adjusts according to the sort of driving you do it just ticks down with the km's as you go along, if you were being more efficient it should give you a better DTE like other cars do as you drive more efficiently, seems to be very basic software and not very accurate.

The DTE is consistent with my other toyota cars. when it reaches zero for me, I've still got at least 150 - 250km (that's i've worked out) for the Hilux still to go.

If you've been super good with fuel consumption, it doesn't increase your DTE immediately. To me it takes a somewhat rolling average, and gives you a little more DTE the next time you fill up.

And the moment you have to floor it - in order to get out of a junction say - you lose the extra DTE you've accumulated straight away.

Same with the fuel gauge - works like a water supply reservoir for a town mains system- there's a Normal Empty for the operating system, and there's Absolute Empty.

Managed this the other day. 7.6L/100km. Just on the standard setting, not eco or pwr mode. I drive 60km/h - 80km/h average, over a 66k round trip to work a day. Got to a servo by 850km and still only managed a 65L fill. This is only my 2nd refill so I'm going to drive till the fuel gauge is closer to the Empty line next time like my 07 hilux and see how I go.

Just got home from a trip out to Georgetown via the Savannah Way, cruise control set on 95kph in Eco Mode gave me a 6.8L/100.
