Just ordered a new hilux that will be getting built early 2017. I couldn't decide between the High rider and 4x4 (I'm a bricky that tows a bit), so the dealer said he would agree to terms with both, order both and then let me decide over the next two months. Top bloke.

Deals are:
2017 SR Hilux / 2.8 turbo diesel
Automatic
Nebula blue paint (includes a sample pot of touch-up paint)
Ceramic sealing of paint (lifetime warranty)
Genuine tow bar
Toyota mats
Genuine soft tonneau cover with elastic strap-down sides and steel bar . Black round hooks to hold down tarp elastic. (Tarp has to be made with holesto accommodate my trade bars)
Tinted windows with lifetime warranty
Fitting of fog lamps, harness and switch (supplied by me, $112)
Full tank of fuel and 12 months reg
Guaranteed fixed price:
4x2 Hi-rider: $45,645.00
4x4: $50,645.00

*I have already bought a set of SR5 rims +nuts with new Michellins ($1200 fitted).
I will sell my new black rims, nuts and tyres on ebay once my ute arrives. Anyone want to make an offer now? Rims fit all toyota 6 bolt design (not just hilux). I’m in Melbourne.

If you tow and work on a building site... 4x4 all the way.
Plus better resale

Very interesting discussion. I'm ready to buy a new SR5, but I'm not in a mad hurry.

I'm torn between buying a 2016 model soon for a discount or just wait a bit longer a buy a 2017 ?

I would be interested to know your thoughts on this ?

If I decide to buy a 2017, should I go into a dealer now and order - or just wait ? :)

Hi Firebucket,

I bought my SR5 in late Feb 2016. It was ordered and delivered within 3 weeks. I think If you went to a dealer anytime now and wanted a 2017 plated vehicle supply would not be an issue. Take note that it should be fitted with the tow bar and wiring harness as standard saving you approx $1000 - you just need to buy the tow hitch.

Approximate onroad cost for a dual cab diesel 4x4 SR5 would be $54000 manual and $56000 Automatic with no additional extras. Any less than this or extra inclusions and you are doing well.

Yeah, settled on the 4x4, even though I know i will hardly go off road with it. I know I'm not being sensible but I just couldn't do it. I just couldn't be happy knowing that I couldn't go off road if I wanted to, pretty stupid reason but it would have annoyed me.
If you pay 45K for a big chunky truck you expect it to be able to go through a bit of mud or sand.

Paid $51k in the end (same specs as I listed). 5k will come straight back in GST so really 46k. Happy.

Guys SR5 has towbar only no wiring, my suggestions don't get Toyota to wire they charge a fortune for what i had done by a towbar place for less than 150...

I say dreaming unless you're getting screwed on a trade in the deal ! Good luck though, worth a shot.

Hey mate the SR5 rear windows are privacy glass only, not tinted, your kids/rear passengers will get sunburnt with the privacy glass still.

If you can afford it get it tinted as well.

Enjoy the new beast.
