We travel to dog competitions regularly and meet a lot of fellow dog owners. With utes canopy and crate is the best method . Tub liners are slippery and will be unsuitable for dog travel . Definitely no chaining the dogs in the tub.
Cant go into detailed dog training principles here but as a rule you don't reward a dog that is scared, uncomfortable or stressed. Reward is for desirable behaviour .

There is difference between what you can do and what is a good practise.
I travel for many hours at highway speeds and expect dogs to perform on arrival so in my case it is not an option.

Rubber ute matting (the one with the holes) from Clark Rubber.
Chest plate harnesses from ezy-dog.
Adjustable short webbing straps, got ours from eBay.
Eye bolts in centre of tub head board or similar.
4 of our dogs all love it to a greater or lesser degree.
