SR5 window tint

Postby adamwcct on Thu, 10 Mar 2016 6:24 +0000

I am new to the forum and have tried to search for any previous posts on this topic so sorry in advance if I have missed it. I am in the process of purchasing a 2016 sr5 after many satisfied years of owning a 2wd SR but the after sales guy at the steeler has informed me that putting aftermarket (non Toyota) tint on the Windows will void the warranty. His reasoning is that they have been having issues with the metalized tints interfering with the keyless entry amongst other things. Does this sound plausible and has anyone had issues with their tint? I have looked into ceramic tint and cannot seem to find one dark enough. I really do not wish to have the dyed tint they are trying to flog me and is overpriced ($695) installed only to be unhappy with it being too light etc. Any advice or feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I only paid 400 for my factory tint last August when I bought my new dual cab SR from Castle Hill Toyota. Why the massive price increase? And for what I gather is a single cab also? Can only put it down to a different type of tint?

In saying that, I'm happy with the quality and looks of my tint. It's dark enough for my taste but doesn't hinder me too much in the dark.

Hi Adam,

Yes, metalized tint can interfere with keyless entry and remote communication.

Look for a shop that deals in 3M tint. 3M have a carbon base for their colour stable tint.

I have had it on 3 cars. No reduction in remote performance, no fading, not the cheapest tint available either.

Just had the wifes new Corolla done $200 for the whole car, no issues with RF interference. Told the dealer he could put tint on if they could match the guy down the road, they said no and didn't try and fight about RF blaaahhh blaaaahh.
Just get an after market guy to do it with warranty and he will repair/replace if RF is interfered with

Try RACQ if you are a member .
I got hilux 2 front and 2 rear for $220.
Note I did not get the back window done as I have a canopy and waste of time.

Window tint is like buying clothes in Bali,

They will quote you something stupid to see if you bite and normally can half their original quote.

Found this to be the case with replacing windows, roller shutters on houses and sub contractors :P
