I have a 2016 Extra cab manual with tray bulbar winch etc, and constantly get an average of 7.3-7.5 ltr per 100k's
I also mainly drive with eco mode off. Normally run it on Caltex Vortex premium fuel which also quietens the injector noise as well.
Have just clocked up 10,000k's ready for its first service.
Autos seem thirsty.

Hey Creaky, I live near Bribie and travel all highway to and from work of about 112ks per work day. I do use cruise control a lot on the highway and because I work nights at the moment I am always going against the peak hour traffic. Happy days..

Regularly running 8.0 -8.6 in 50/50 city and highway. 2016 dual cab SR5 auto diesel. Best ever was 7.8 on a long hwy run

I own a 2016 DC SR5 diesel auto 4500klms on clock with hard lid. Travelling to work in Sydney traffic every day and I have been returning around 10.0 pretty consistently. A recent trip from Sydney to Canberra got 8.7. I'm driving to QLD next week, so will be interesting to see how it goes on a longer trip loaded up with all our gear...
I just sold my VE SS, and would get between 14 and 15 going to work, and low 9s on a trip.

I have a 2016 sr5 dual cab auto 2.8 with canopy.

Still under 2000kms on the clock.
Just got 910km and only managed to get 62l back in the 80L tank.

Hi all I have just completed a 3,600 km trip from Melbourne to the Gold Coast towing our caravan with the 2016 SR5 2.8 D4D, which at the time had only 5,000 km on the clock. I averaged 15.4 ltr per 100 km round trip, this included driving around the gold coast for two weeks.
The best fuel economy I got was about 13.3 on one section of the trip up the Newell highway on the way there, and on the home stretch I got 13.7 along the pacific highway coming back home.
The car performed flawlessly aside from the transmission never reaching 6th gear, but from what I have read on the other posts there is a software update which I will be talking to my local dealership about.
I did use cruise control ONCE from Melbourne to Parks NSW, but it used way too much juice, what I found was the cruise control would obviously change gears more often and rev the engine when ever I approached an incline or hill. Just driving the car normally without cruise control I allowed the car to slow down on hills ( speed dropped from about 110 km to about 100 ) this obviously used a lot less juice.
The caravan weight all up was about 2,200 kg's, two adults an two children, car was full of kids stuff, toys, DVD players, I pads etc. The rear tube was full with, two tables, 5 chairs three scooters, tarps, I think that was about it, I'll try and post some picks.

640 km. Last three k's driven with "Refuel now' in the driving range field.

Did you check how much went in? Deduct that from tank capacity and you have a real idea of distance to empty when the light comes on

When my fuel light comes on, there's about 15-20L still left in the tank.

There's a ECU update apparently that fixes this if you asked for it at the dealer service.

I guess the that's Toyota protecting their cars - as the bottom end of the tank has dirty fuel that may contain solids you won't want sending through and jamming up the injectors.

And also more air above the fuel in the tank encourages moisture vaporisation - which forms droplets on the tank walls the next time you open the cap to refuel and get that pressure release. Just like popping a coke bottle.

These droplets then collects at the bottom of the tank with the dirt and all the horrible stuff not good for diesel engines.

True, but your tank outlet is at the bottom of the tank so any crud there will always be sucked up despite the level of fuel in the tank and this is why you have filtration preferably a pre filter

As to fuel left when the light comes on, I would prefer adequate warning with a couple of hundred K's to give distance to fill the tank... you don't want a warning when there is only 10 K's left

I think I squeezed 66L in, thats trickling it into the neck. Range now 717 indicated, for what its worth.
Of course, when I stopped to drop the kids off, it showed 13 k range, then decided to do a DPF burn. Buy the time I drove off, the figure dropped to 8km. Remarkable..

Yea mine seems to be doing it when it's not convenient also hehe...it's not really a big deal. With a mixture of city and hard driving I'm averaging 700 on 60ish litres. With 33s, bar and lift. Indicated 8.9l per 100. After 26000km It's still flawless.

Gee Dave thanks for that... glad I kept the kun26 without the dpf but the point is whatever model my comments are relevant... prefillter and know how far you can go on the"reserve" if you must... I always keep mine full whenever I can Your figures appear to be right for "reserve" fuel last week I drove 100k on reserve and sweated for the last 20 the fill was 70 ltrs so still had 100k left to 'curtains'.

Does anyone else have a long range tank and if so does the same problem occur.

Cool, I'd always thought it had a sump. And 2-fuel off-takes- one at higher level and the emergency at the sump.. which one would like to avoid.

If everything goes through the bottom of the tank I might go ahead and get this software update then.

No only one outlet and the other is return from the fuel rail when running. There is always some return to the tank when running

Why update? 15 to20 ltrs a good safety margin.

The margin is probably too big for me because this car does exclusively metro area. I'm getting 7.7l/100km so that gives me over 250km reserve.

That's the good news.

But being in the metro area means I'm somehow always getting in line to refuel - and you'd never believe how incredible large this truck feels when you don't have the turning radius to get up next to the pump you want without cleaning out the 2 cars next to you, and by the time my minds works out the possible angles to do it then a Hyundai Getz waltzs into the spot - and then I'll waiting some more in line to pay because I got the door to let an old lady in first, in front of me .... so if I can push this whole orgy out another 100-150km without the warning light annoying me like a pain in the arse...
