Journos must be on the take, they did award a Kia as car of the year after all. I have an opinion on journo "road tests" and "comparos" which is most likely shared by plenty of others. All of these cars are obviously brand new, they go for their little "expert" drive (most journos couldn't drive a stick up a .........) and make their decision. Unfortunately in the real world owners keep their cars for 3-5 years and up to 150000km. The interesting test would be to grab a 3 year old hilux, ranger, amorok, Nav and see what they are like, noting what has gone pear shaped in that time.

Have yet to see a journo lift the bonnet and comment on how easy it is to change a belt or water hose or water pump on the side of the road 200 k from nowhere. Or what a pain in the arse it is rolling about in the mud in the rain trying to get spare wheel out from under tray or put it back again. The number of cup holders or fashion accessories inside the car are of no interest at that point. I see every road test journo in the country is telling us the hilux has a ground clearance of 279 mm now. Wonder where they got that from. I measured a few including my own and it's still 225 by my measurement. Wonder where they got that crap from?? Unless Toyota has to feed journos a pack of lies to sell vehicles now. I thought Toyotas pretty much sold themselves. I'm real happy with mine and the dealer who sold it to me. A bit of useful information from these blokes would be real helpful when shopping for a new vehicle.

Just got sr5+ back from 1month service - had the backlash problem on the rear end ( only minor but could feel it from day one - felt like too much play somewhere ).
Turns out the tailshaft spline too tight in diff.
Watched the two mechanics hammer it to remove from diff.
Then machined the spline for more clearance - took 3 hrs.
Toyota said there was a note about it at the sevice centre.
Feels much better now - hopefully economy will now improve more from 10.3

Had mine in again for the thud/clunk. Notes in the job card mentioned removal of prop shaft and filing of the spline.

Clunk is pretty much gone, Although I keep expecting it to happen every time I stop.

Also had the tub liner fitted. Looks real nice.

I've. Had my new sr5 for a week now, i love it! Keen to get a lift and try some 33s on and start the mods.
Also does anyone else have the clip on soft tonneau cover? I had one on my last ute and it was great. This one looks all saggy and holds a lot of water.

Keep in mind when lifting an sr5 the headlight adjusting sensors are on the rear springs. Different height springs may affect this.

Is this problem with the autos only or both?

Correct crustie, because of the tight tolerances between the spline and collar. The torque of the engine in the autos prevents the spline from sliding until the load is removed when you stop. Hence the bump noise. I believe there is a fix on the way but this isn't the first Toyota to suffer this problem.

I suppose it's better to have a tight shalf than a sloppy one

Yep, cash for comment.
Not many you can trust now. Just take what you want out of these reviews and be aware of the fluff.
On another note, the world has become truly a dishonest place. ;)

Hi
Wondering if anyone has noticed additional power when using the power button instead of Eco or
does it just hold gears longer on the Auto
Seems to me to be a lot more sting  or is my mind playing games

Power mode is very addictive. I love driving around town in Power, but it's probably not good for the wallet. Eco mode tends to reduce the throttle response, limits kick downs on the gearbox, stays in the gear you're in longer and reduces the air con. I reckon going from Eco to Power is like someone removing a brick from behind the accelerator pedal.

I've gone through two full tanks using Power Mode only and yes, it's very heavy on the juice.

Mate you still have the option of driving without the power or eco button pressed. That just gives you the normal mode. There are three modes to drive in. Power, Normal and Eco. I've found Normal pretty good and don't use the buttons at all now. Each to his own, but normal works for me.
Cheers

I found the same on the borrowed petrol lux I had for four days. But off the lights in power mode is cool
