The seats are 60/40. Yes they they do lift upwards and can hang there. Is that the same as the previous model?

The rear seats are 60/40. They are unlatched with tags that are below the outside seats. The biggest problem is that they have thicker bases, so the gap between the front and rear seats has diminished.

They have had scheme's like that for quite a while now, they are certainly increasing their density on the road in my area.

Just did a trip from Cairns to Brisbane then back again 2 weeks later, the South Eastern part of Queensland is smothered in Rangers but once you get further North it's all mostly Hilux's with nary a Ranger to be seen.

Mate I think any quality low ash/low saps diesel oil would suffice. For normal use a 0w/30 or 5w/30 as recommended is fine. If you are towing heavy trailer or doing heavy offroad work a 5w/40 may be better. This is recommended in your handbook. I notice the Castrol oils have come down in price the last few years, perhaps there's a reason for that, I really don't know. But it must be low ash because of the DPF. They re-generate every 3 to 5 hundred as it is without using crap oil or non low ash oils.
Cheers.

Pretty sure caltex still add metal particles to their fuel? I saw a photo on navara.asia a while ago where a fuel filter was filled with metal particles and the owner had only ever used caltex diesel.

Yeah thanks mate. I have been using Caltex Vortex for years exclusively as my local servo is a Caltex. Good fuel and no problems. Why on earth would Caltex put metal particles in their fuel??? Guaranteed to bugger the injector pump, clog up the fuel filter and if any gets through the filter it will bugger your injectors. What a load of crap. Tell whoever gave you that load of rubbish to take a long walk out a short jetty. Seems he has something against the Caltex company or one of it's servos. Cheers.

From what I understand it is to do with the cetane rating of the diesel. Toyota and most new Diesel engines recommend a cetane of 48 or more. Caltex is rated at 46 and BP is better than 50. Shell is also a higher rating than Caltex.

I can understand Toyota recommending a minimum cetane rating but not a maximum :D

As a general comment, BP is the go.
All these modern CRD engines are designed around the European standard of 50+.
46 is to low for these vehicles.
The relationship with the right fuel is important to any diesel engine.
The Roo.
Passing through country and seeing country are two different things.

No mate I don't work for Caltex. It's just I get pissed off at some of the garbage that gets posted on some of these forums giving false advice to people looking for help. Why in God's name would a fuel refiner intentionally put metal filings in their fuel and stuff up vehicles all over the country. If this were true the roads would be littered with broken down cars, Caltex would be inundated with law suits for vehicle damage and would be out of business by now. That,s all mate, no other reason. Also I think you'll find that Caltex only guarentees a minimum of 46 because that is the minimum under Legislation covering diesel. In fact all refiners and brands of diesel sold in Australia are around the same cetane level of 50+. They all buy each other's fuel depending on who has the nearest refinery and just alter from time to time the additive packs out in their own fuel, mostly as an advertising gimmick. Basically even the additives are the same, just different brands promote one one of the additives and another brand will promote another of the additives. But all major brands are pretty much the same. Seems like the promotional stuff of some of the brands is working . I have no connection to any oil company, drive extensively round the country and use whatever is available at the time. Also luckily have never had a bad load of fuel, using probably every brand on the market including the independents. But always straight diesel, never any of these bio diesels and stuff. Modern injector systems are built to such fine tolerances that even additives like injector cleaners can cause damage. Imagine what metal particles would do. Cheers.

LOL it's a lottery, keeps life interesting, like the way Indonesians can refuel a boat with a jerry can full of petrol, a funnel, and a ciggy hanging out of their mouth....most of the time.
Regards Chris.

I started life with nothing, and I've still got most of it left

FUEL ECONOMY
Anyone been checking fuel economy yet. I get mid to high 8s/100 with a sr manual, totally stock (apart from floor mats and towbar). I think high 8s is probably the most likely. This is measured at the pump not the dash readout. Combination of freeway and suburban running. Only put 4 tanks through it so far.
Cheers.
