Those who say it's too much $$$. If you do the math on a like equipped Tacoma taking the exchange rate into mind the Hilux is almost the same price. It's a little more, but cars will always be more expensive here.

I checked them out the other day here in perth. Was going to take their demo out until they told me to sign to agree to $1500 excess payment WTF. They can ram that. Got the salesclown to drive it and went round block seemed nice and quiet but nothing special. Nose overhang is butt ugly. Pricing is a joke in my mind. Anyone know wat that plastic box on back of transfer case is looks like a real practical place for some electrics...

Funny Alfy.
Shift levers (mechanical means) are no longer used. It's done electronically with an actuator. That's what the black box is, and that's what does the changes in the transfer case. Welcome to the modern 4wd vehicle.
The actuators have been on the Prado models for some time. They do need to be protected by a guard, as they can get damaged 4wding. Pretty expensive repair, as well.
I am with you on the pricing thing.

Does anyone know what the maximum capacity for the front axle is on the new Hilux? The current model has 1,340kg which was easily exceeded with dual batteries, steel bull bar and winch.

Did anyone notice a cigarette lighter in the new model? On reflection I can't seem to remember if the sr had one. There was a 12v socket and usb input and thats it from memory...not unless I missed it somewhere on the dash.

I've been looking at the SR 4x4 cab chassis and according to the Toyota site it has narrower tyres and rims than the extra cab and duel cab. I just cant understand the reasoning.

I can confirm the dual cab SR CC has 265/65R17 I was looking at one yesterday, would make an excellent work truck.

the single cabs have smaller tyres however 225/70r17 which is about 30mmsmaller OD

Yep the single cab has a narrower body width than the extra cab and the duel cab. And yes it has narrower rims and tires as a result. It's about 3 inches difference. The single cab (regardless of variant) doesn't have the width in the flared guards like the duel and extra cab. Seems strange that they would have to tool two different guards :? So there's your reasoning for the different rim widths. the extra and duel cab wheels would stick out past the guards if they used them on the single cab.

I ended up going an SR dc style side in auto, picked it up yesterday. Really happy with it so far. I removed my rims/tyres off the hilux I traded, they fit identically...as in they have a pos 10 and the upper outer edge of the tyre is flush with the wheel arch. The lower part isn't though, I may need to place a dark cover there so the foot step doesn't get covered all the time. The tyres are 265x70x17. They scrub on one part of the mudflap which should be easy to fix and only while turning. I did some mild four wheel driving and it didn't scrub from a bit of travel. Yeah no cigarette lighters only a 12v socket on the SR.

A review of the 2.4 workmate 4x4 http://www.drive.com.au/new-car-reviews ... kax3p.html they say it goes alright, I wonder if toyota under rated it though because for ages floating around the internet it was rated at 125kw then they release it at 110kw? if its on par with a 1KD Id be happy, more torque, better fuel economy and lighter motor, win win.

This review is SR 2.8 but the text references the 2.4 Workmate which is a bit misleading .....

Just picked up a new dual cab SR5 auto in grey last week. Very happy with it and got a decent price, I reckon(59k on road, including towbar and tub liner)

Have taken it to Ourimbah state forest twice. Nothing too rough, but thoroughly enjoyed it. This is my first ute in 10 years, so my frame of reference is a bit weak.

Can confirm no cigarette lighter, but 2x 11v charge ports plus a USB port, and of course the 220v plug in the center console, which the people complaining about the lack of aircon vents at the back can use to plug in a fan :)
