The problem as I see it with the down grade in CC is that the engine will be working harder to pull the same loads, that means more heat for longer periods, as we all know diesels just LOVE lots of heat put that in one of the hottest environments on the planet and you have to say... well just look at all those old small mitsi diesels that used to explode in the 90's not to say that the new engine will, I'm sure its well tested just like the first D4D's

I disagree with the ride quality comments, the PXII Ranger, I think is way better at cornering than a new (until next week) Hilux, dont get me wrong, I have been a toyota devotee for decades, raced, wrecked and modified dozens over the years of all shapes and sizes. I just feel Toyota has taken a step in the wrong direction for the first time in a very long time with the new evolution. Of course I will hold final judgement until I actually get to drive one in a week or so, but based on the small amount of info at the moment I am going to find it hard to stay loyal this time around.

The new Hilux is fantastic, 3.5 ton tow, more power, better fuel eco, and the Extra cab has the suicide doors, also they are a bit bigger inside

Would like to see it tow 3.5 tonne up hill into a head wind . It's just marketing crap. A lot of these modern diesels make these statements but in the real world I doubt it very much . The current hilux is rated to 2250 . Yet mine can't handle my little tvan without the auto temp light coming on . Imagine if I had towed near its limit of 2250 . Come on

Roo I'm all for change, thats why I keep an open mind about what is the best bang for buck. I do between 40-50K kms a year, often loaded up, I know that the 1GD is fine in lighter applications, I am unsure how it will hold out in 40c towing a tonne in a trailer in a near two tonne chassis.

There's change, then there's reality. I am well connected in Toyota Aus, even they are worried!

i think manufacturers should look at engine availability in usa, and consider options for true heavy duty engine options.
most of us would pay a premium of 5K for a better engine, that we don't need to put exhausts and chips to get real grunt!
its obvious Australia loves the turbo Diesel, give me the option of a cummins V8 diesel instead of highly stung four!
i d even take a big reliable old school six TD, im happy to use a couple more litres per hundred and have less issues with injectors and overheating transmissions, in the race for efficiency they have forgotten to take into account service
and repair issues, but i guess thats how they squeeze more $$$$$ from us

I spoke to a staff member from the fleet department in a Sydney Dealership. He stated that its $1500 more than the RRP of the previous model and won't be discounted anytime soon as they will struggle to keep up with the demand for the first few months. This puts a Dual Cab SR5 auto at approx $61500 driveaway. Around $3000 cheaper than the top spec Ranger.

And x2 for it being released in showrooms this coming Tuesday 29th Sept.

I believe the first group dealer showing was early this in Perth, god knows why it was up there, a lot of the Toyota HO team didn't even go from what I hear. NSW training camp for most dealerships sales team in Sydney is the 26th.

Castle Hill Toyota predict they will have cars to demo on the 2/3rd

Im keen to see what the SR will be priced at and what specs it will have compared to the XLT Ranger, its going to be hard for Toyota to beat the display and options that fords put in.
