Not to sure if this has been posted yet, from the Toyota website

The double cab HiLux revealed in Australia features 18-inch wheels on a body that is sleeker and more muscular at 70mm longer and 20mm wider with a slightly lower roofline. The range also includes 16 and 17-inch wheels

From here

So I am guessing the photo above is 18" wheels

saw about 4 prados sitting at my local dealer fitted with the 1GD and one with a 1KD (sucks to be the person who buys that one :?) the fuel consumption has dropped pretty considerably based on the ADR test stickers

1KD (prado)
urban: 10.6
comb: 8.5
extra: 7.3

1GD (prado)
urban: 9.7 (-8.5%)
comb: 8.0 (-6%)
extra: 7.0 (-4.2%)

not bad for a smaller motor and more power and torque in a 2.2t suv, I'd expect hilux to be probably 10% lower due to lower weight and a part time 4wd system

Was talking to a mate who is the owner of a large dealership.
I enquired about the new hilux, He said pricing is released when they wholesale on the 29th September.

Yea definitely haha, its meant to be a pretty quiet from what motoring.com was saying but a bit lack lustre in performance http://www.motoring.com.au/reviews/2015 ... view-53539 thats for a prado though, another 107nm and extra cog in a hilux should make it like a rocket ship...

Odd the this time around the Prado gets the same engine specs as the Hilux.

Considering that previously the 1KD was safely tuned up to close to 1GD levels (previous Prado to current) I had thought the Prado would also get a premium output as compared to the Hilux.

Obviously it's a more refined engine but I never found a fault with the 1KD in my mates 150 series, it was already leagues ahead of my Hilux

Fluff and goo.
Well, it might be alright if you are going to buy all your accessories off Toyota dealerships.
What about promoting the benefits of the new diesel engines, and the new engineering?
Suits out in the rain, and they just don't get it.
You are not going to rule the world with fluff and goo.
Marketing people as a general comment, are so out of touch, Toyota Australia.
You are going to have to work harder to sell this vehicle to the people.
I know I won't be buying any accessories with a vehicle that I might buy off a Toyota dealership.
I won't want them to touch it, that's for sure.

Steven, have you ever seen what a big Kangaroo does to a alloy bar?

oh I'm just referring to the fact most people seem to fit bullbars for looks, and a place to fit their driving lights

Some genuine parts there which would see it a good pick from a oh&s perspective, I know our business is doing mandatory aftermarket handbrake alerts due to vehicle runoffs, so a factory/dealer fitted item will make it an easier choice.

So apart from lining up at the dealership and being fed the same old drivel, has anyone managed to get some pricing yet?

Castle Hill Toyota sales team go for their training on the 26th so they just say they know nothing. On the other hand I have some inside gossip at Toyota Australia that they are not happy with the spec and pricing provided by Toyota Japan and have been negotiating with them for some months as they are, and rightly so, worried about the loss of market share.

I have to say from my personal perspective the drop in engine capacity and power is seriously affecting my want to keep Toyota loyal. My trusty 07 has just clicked over 270K and still going strong, but it is time to pass it on to another for more love than I care to give these days.

Flame away, but have any of you test driven the Ranger? I have tested the Ranger and its poorly cousin the BT50, they are both pretty good trucks, suspension is pretty good in both, its a proven engine and drive-train having been run for a few years now. The BT50 has a more tradie like finish internally, not to mention a face like a smashed crab, or as my wife says "the Ranger just looks more blokeish". Going to test drive the Nissan by the end of the week then wait for the Hilux release. Sadly I have to say at this stage it looks like I might be turning to the Ford

Anybody else been doing some testing?
Cheers
Michael

I drove a ranger a few months ago, it was like being back in my old D22 navara, truly horrible experience and the retarded salesman kept going on about it's got this and that over the hilux and I was like mate the hilux is just a better put together car and designed to be functional as a dual cab should be...

I hate ford and cant stand them but I must say the ranger motor is nice and pulls a load well .
Iam not a fan of all these modern diesels going smaller and more turbos to get more power .
There is no sacrifice for cubic inches IMO .

Yeah, I lost the website, but the engine (2.8) has a 15/1 compression ration versus the usual 18/1. Very low compression so must have a huge boost in turbo output to balance it off. I guess it wasn't a misprint but seems strange that a smaller engine with lower compression is giving an increased power output. Would have to be a huge lift in turbo boost i think. Still we'll know all in a week or so I guess.
Cheers.

That's the same way Mitsubishi went with their new motor in the triton, lower compression. Must have some benefit though? That's two big players doing it. Have a funny feeling it's the same with Nissan
