Just got the recall letter today. I use and app called acar which syncs its data to fuelly.com Mostly over 12L/100k on 17 SR5 Auto

I have done just over 5000 ks in mine now and with no resets on the trip computer it has settled at 8l per 100k. This is on a 2018 SR5 manual.

Gday guys, I’ve got a 2018 SR Dual Cab 2.8 Auto. Standard suspension, Mickey Thompson ATZ P3’s 265/70/17 on King D Locker steel rims. Ironman Winch bar and Side rails (no winch yet,) factory heavy duty alloy tray, Mini Canopy carrying 4x 20L jerry cans of diesel and 1 x 20L jerry can of water as well as work luggage and jumper cables etc, approx 180 - 200kgs most days, factory tow bar, Safari Armax Snorkel, Stedi Type X Pro spotties and 3303 light bar.

I’ve found a lot of the same issues mentioned with the fuel economy, Power/Eco and lack of holding in 6th gear above 100km/hr. I seem to notice the economy depends more on the terrain (uphill or flat) than it does on whether I’m light on the pedal or not. This is reinforced by the fact that I do 90% plus highway driving and on cruise control, thus eliminating the pedal technique theory.

I have also tested the difference between running the Mickey Thompson Atz’s (265/70/17) Vs the factory Yoky Geolandars (265/65/17) and I estimate the MT’s use around 0.5L/100 to 1.0L/100 more than the factory Yokies taking into consideration wind, terrain, weight of fuel load factors etc. Comfort wise, the steering is obviously a little lighter and the ride is a bit more comfortable (slightly softer.) These factors I think are pretty reasonable, considering the Yokies are a highway tyre and the MT’s are a much heavier duty 10ply aggressive all terrain light truck tyre. Many are reporting 85 - 100,000kms out of these tyres with no issues after consistent rotation.

Back to the fuel thing, being a brand new car it has only done 3000 kms, as mentioned 90% highway and as a result, no sign of DPF light or any symptoms (yet)..

One thing I have noticed, with the auto transmission which I find unusual, is that if I throttle to 105km/hr and activate cruise control in 5th gear it will hold 5th gear and not change into 6th. However, if I throttle past 105km/h to 110km/hr and slightly back the throttle off, the trans will change into 6th and settle at 105km/hr.. if I activate the cruise control there, it will maintain 105km/hr but will use 5th gear when needed (uphill) and return back to 6th on the flat. So why do I have to get the trans to find 6th above 105km/hr first? What does the trans use to decide what gear to be in?.. seems odd to me. And the Eco mode seems almost completely useless (fuel economy wise) at any speeds over 100km/hr.

As a rough average on varied highway terrain, you could basically say my economy averages are:

100km/hr = 10.5L/100kms
110km/hr = 11.5L/100kms
120km/hr = 12.5L/100kms
130km/hr = 13.5L/100kms

These figures are based on the averages reading on the dash, which is based on the fuel gauge and distance to empty.. which we all know isn’t very accurate at all. In the coming weeks I will be using the trip meters to calculate my ‘actual usage’

Yesterday I travelled 595km averaging 105km/hr and today put around 70l back in. This would indicate around 650km/80L or 12.3L/100kms... which is a little higher than the computer average was displaying.

Has anyone else experienced these issues or found ways around them?

In regards to the fuel usage I am getting same results as you are, which is fine (my car accessories are in my signature).

Speaking of 5th and 6th gear, another thing I observed whilst constantly using TorquePro app to monitor what engine is doing is that when driving on flat freeway around 100 - 105km/hr the car transmission fluid temperatures are higher if the car is in 6th gear (around 85-90 degrees). When 5th is selected manually (S4) then transmission fluid temperatures drop around 10 degrees (around 70-75 degrees)

Also when towing, if the car is traveling at speeds up to 80km/hr then S4 mode (4th gear) is the best for transmission temperatures. Whilst on the flat freeway the sweet spot is in S5 (5th gear) at the speed of 100km/hr on cruise control. (temps should stay not higher than 96 degrees on flat).
Mind you, towing in hilly areas will see transmission temperatures going over 100 degrees, most I've seen was 118 degrees briefly.

That is your converter working hard, it does less work in 4th. My 2011 does the same thing, leaving it to its own devices in a higher gear the converter is working harder and transmission temperatures rocket. If I lock the converter (manually) they drop very quickly.
If you have seen 118deg from the ECU then it may be closer to 140 exiting the converter - I'd be fitting a decent cooler in series with the radiator one as at those temperatures you are burning fluid. I find that sometimes I forget to keep an eye on fluid temps on a long trip and let the transmission do its thing, so it is nice to have the extra insurance of the extra cooling.

Can someone drop a link to a successful OBD2 Bluetooth or Wifi connector for the Gen8 Lux? And also it is the OBD2 Torque Pro by Yerzhan Tleuov (iPhone) you guys are using? My dash cam connects by wifi, I wonder if I can connect to both at the same time?

So I got a Bluetooth Dongle, connected successfully and just driven nearly 500kms and the OBD Fusion is showing 11.7 Trip Fuel Economy, yet the dash tells me my average is 13.2? What do guys reckon?

My hilux says 13L/100 and I get about 480-510km per tank. Ive never really looked at how many litres it is though.

2018 SR5, auto, fibreglass canopy, draws and fridge, 20in rims and I typically tow a tool trailer around 5 days a week.

Yep mine's the same I have an ultragauge and it's 1.5 litres per 100 out.
You would think the dipsticks at Toyota would put it in the other direction to bolster up the facts on that lying sticker that's on the windscreen when you buy it.
Just shows you how good there r and d is these days.

So I went to the servo as the gauge was below the E and the DTE said “refuel” Here’s what I got into it:

63.3L to first click off the gun.
68.7L after dribbling the neck full.

Looks like the neck around 5L to 5.5L. So although the DTE showed “Refuel” the tank still had at least 11 - 16.5L in it. On my usage that’s 90 -125km at least...

City driver, bull bar, racks and 36k on clock, 11.6L per 100km.
I heard today a mate got 28.5L per 100km in his land cruiser pulling a camper trailer around Australia.

To many variables, as has been discussed several times on pretty much all car related forums. That's why your car comes with a sticker saying it uses x.x per hundred K's in a standardised test.

Mine uses 11L/100 kms is it high, don't know. Not compared to my previous car, that used 19L/100 kms... but geez it was fun...

It was using 13.5 prior to the DPF update, but did that change it? Maybe my driving style adapted to a diesel, maybe it's just run in...

I guess I'm being a bit paranoid, I have had some luck & got a bit of cash together and I'm thinking about updating my '12 Rolux to the latest model.

But, reading about wasting fuel had me thinking about a Cruiser with a V8 Diesel because if I'm going to be spending more on fuel, I may as well get something for the cash !!!

I have a 2019 Hilux SR 4x4 auto the best i can get out of it is 10.3lt per 100ks i had a 2014 BT50 3.2lt auto and i could get it down to 7.9lt per 100ks Toyota need to sought this economy problem out before they start loosing customers.
