Diff breather height on 2016

Postby Juzzyjnr on Sun, 26 Jun 2016 9:40 +0000

Can anyone tell if the 2016 has diff breathers and how high are they set if they do? Got a trip planned soon with lots of water crossings and just want to prepare. Thanks in advance!

There are 2 breathers on the engine side of the fuel filter (on the 2.8 diesel). They are basically at the base of the filter. Not sure what they are for exactly but possibly front diff and transmission

Do you mind taking a few pics of locations and where you extended them to?

Are you using a specific kit or making your own?

If those two are at the base of the fuel filter is there are real need to extend them because I'm thinking if the water is up to that height you're in a whole heap of trouble?

Also I would suggest mounting the rear diff breather into the tail light mounting area as it's a shorter run for install and would sit higher than the engine bay.

Havent had a chance to do it yet as iv'e been working away. But it does look like the front is high enough. The rear has no lifted breather yet so ill look at installing some reinforced hose with fiitings soon. with all the room under there from the lift kit and being a plumber this should be a 20min job.

Cheers for your help guys

Can i confirm that it is only necessary to lengthen the rear diff breather?
Is it a case that the front diff has a short breather like the rear?
I can't see any extra breathers up front other then the two people are referring to. Isn't there normally 4 or 5 breather caps? Not 3.

Hello all, I am in the same situation with my 4x4 Dual Cab Revo and preparing it for wading in Thailand. I located the rear breather with the factory dust cap yesterday and from some internet searching it looks like I need to add breathers / extend existing breathers for the following:

Front diff
Rear diff
Transmission
Transfer case
Auto Disconnect Differential
Diesel fuel tank

Did I miss anything?

Thanks very much.

I believe front diff on my sr5 is just below fuel filter, and the trans breather line is about half way up the engine from what I could see, and I lengthened my rear diff up into the tail light area if that helps

Wondering whether to extend mine too. There are another 3 at the back of the engine right down the bottom of the fire wall, top of the transmission.

My last car (FJ) I did all breathers. Prado before that, just the diff. This Hilux I have only done the rear diff to behind the fuel filler point. IMO it's not worth the trouble to extend those breathers sitting on top of the transition up another 200-300mm in the engine bay. If I was living in the tropics I may reconsider.
