Howdy from Cairo!

I've seen, on this board, that 6" speakers seem to be the norm with our beloved trucks, but does anyone know if it is possible (read - not difficult) to add 5X7" or 6X9" speakers to the front and back doors? I'm looking to get some new speakers to replace the factor and would love a bit bigger speaker to get more bass.....

Thanks a bunch!

I guess it depends how deep your new speakers are, but it's never easy fitting oval shapes into round holes.

I have had a look at this. you would need to make an adapter mount that attaches to the door and will accomodate the 6X9... you may have to remove some of the door trim ...the round circle bit inside where the old speaker sat...the adapter will need to be approx 20 - 26 mm thick depending on the speaker... you will have to experiment here... remember the speaker magnet will hit the window in the fully lowered position if it is mounted to far in...I believe you should be looking for a speaker that is approx 56 - 60 mm deep.. failing all that you could get an amp and a bazooka bass tube... mount it behind your rear seats... that is if they are available in Egypt... Alpine make a good speaker with the correct toyota mounts in their DDLinear type 6 1/2 inch speakers range from $299 - $1299 Australian a pair....Cheers TOMUCH

Thanks for the feedback, I'll check out Alpine for their specs and see if I can also use Polk (which is having some killer sales in the States). I will also check into the Bazooka - as I bring everything over from the States as the import taxes are killer on electronics in Egypt. My rear seat is kinda lame in that it the back doesn't tilt forward. You can left the bench, but the back doesn't have the ability to tilt forward. I guess that unused space would be a great place for a bazooka! Thanks again...

I took my door off and found that the speaker is actually 5 1/4" inches in a plastic housing.
Do you guys also have this same housing? It looks like the only way I can get it off is by drilling out those rivet looking things. I guess I'll have to drop down to a 5 1/4" speaker, rather than going with the 6 1/2" that are so readily available.

What is a good size bazooka to put behind the seat and where are the bolt that I can pop that baby out? Any help tomuch and others?.

Yes you will need to drill out the rivets.. I have not done it yet... still waiting for my speakers to arrive... but I am told that 6 1/2 inch speakers will fit... I purchased some plastic Toyota type mounts on Ebay ( 330102036416 ) If what I am told is correct, these will allow 6 1/2 inch speakers to be fitted.... I was thinking of the 8 inch bazooka without amp and then fitting my own amp to it...Cheers TOMUCH

Yeah I drilled mine out, I bought some spacers for my 6.5" speakers and they didn't fit properly, I had to make an extra bit to support it... just thin flat bar did the trick! ... those plates look great TOMUCH... should get them and do it properly....

After measuring the grill holes, they come in at only 6" - doesn't that make a 6.5" speaker a bit larger? It looks like the front door panel grills will allow a better margin for error, to cut away stuff,

but the rear doors look kinds of tight.

Are you guys putting 6 1/2 inchers in both front and rear, or only in the front. Maybe 5 1/4" would be fine in the rear with a bazooka to boost the bass up. I'm thinking of doing component systems in the front and rear to get four tweeters postiioned for optimum sound - anyone done that?

Guys, I am keen to replace the standard speakers and get better sound also. Are you guys still running the original 6 stacker Mp3 Head Unit?
Also, what is a Bazooka? Is it just a brand of Sub-woofer ? Can you connect this to the original head Unit?
Has anyone done a sucessful swap yet of the door speakers and what speakers did you use, and was the sound much better?
Rich.

I recevied my spacer plates today... they give me about 65mm of space behind them to the window....Should have the speakers this weekend...
Rich, a Bazooka is a bass tube, I believe you can get them as small as 6 and 8 inch...... they come with and without an amp... I am told that the ones without the amp are better... but you will need to buy your own amp...obviously... Cheers TOMUCH

thanks for the photo tomuch! I'm looking foward to seeing the photos with your speakers installed. What speakers did you get? What do you think about being able to put 6.5"ers in the rear doors?
