Reversing camera - reversing switch

Postby akroehn on Thu, 12 Apr 2007 4:37 +0000

Does anyone know if there is somewhere under the dash where I tie into the reversing switch (ie the power that goes to the reversing lights when the gearbox is put in reverse) - this will set up my camera so the screen is only active when the gearbox is in reverse.

If I can't find it I'll tap into the wire at the reversing light itself, but thought it'd be easier not to have to run a wire all the way back to the cabin.. Then again I have to run the camera lead from there I suppose..

fyi if anyone's interested I have the VSA-2500 system available from here: http://visionsolutions.com.au/reverse.htm

I've mounted the LCD on the ceiling directly above the rear view mirror (between the visors). I plan to mount the camera somewhere near the numberplate at the back..

The switch is on the gearbox. Do you have a manual or auto?? Many autos have extra switches for controlling the electronics.
I have nothing good to say down here so I wont say anything at all

It is easier to get the wire from under the dash than off the gearbox. It took me ages to find. I will post a pic of the wire tomorrow evening for you of where I hooked in my camera. I put the screen in the same place but mounted the camera on my canopy. (www.sidewinder.com.au)

Hope this works - this is a bit blurry but it is the thick red wire with white stripe on the white connector with 4 wires (above the black connector inside the red circle)

I ended up running a coaxial cable with a positive lead back to the cab from the rear, now I have a switch on the dash, I can turn it on and off when I please and the in-dash dvd screen I have is OK but rather annoying when you want to flip it out to reverse so I might get myself a small seperate screen....

McSumWay - I have an auto...

Jabren - thanks for the pic, i'm assuming that is the bank of plugs under the steering wheel (can't tell from the pic where it is) - will have a look tomorrow and try to locate the wire you've indicated...
