I'll see how long it lasts.

Did you upgrade the fusible link etc?

To be honest I don't know. Some people have mentioned that it's a requirement to deal with the extra current that is being produced, but I'm not an autoelectrician. I was just wondering if you'd gone down that path and what was involved.

Cheers wombat81; yeah, I had reached out early this week and asked a few questions and for timings, and their estimate plus postage time was fair. Lucky enough to be able to borrow a vehicle for the timebeing and COVID-19 means I can't get out and around much anyway. The actual unit swap looks easy enough and I do have the Toyota Workshop Manual on-hand.

Regarding the 130A OEX, I trawled a lot of the topics re: alternators and general consensus was that 130A does warrant a wiring upgrade but I didn't find anyone who actually had issues with their 130A unit. Mudgeeraba do have an aftermarket 150A option on their website and a kit to go with it which also looks quite simple if you wanted an idea of what you're looking at.

The system will perform ok without upgrading the fuseable link until the alternator is pushed past 100 amps which may never happen until there is an unusual demand like the start battery being run down accidentally and jump starting with a good rev of the engine too soon peaking the alternator.
In normal operation it probably wont happen but if you have a 40 amp dc dc charger it will be running very close if you run your house battery down and load up the system with AC or lots of lights.
Wont happen every day but major pita if it ever does so makes sence to prevent the possibility.

Hey all, Im replacing alternator on my 2008 KUN26, I have searched and found multiple answers to these questions:

Whats the amperage on a stock alternator? (It was in the car and fine for 220K)
Whats the 'best' amperage to go for? Repco have a 130amp but at $481 thats more than I expected... Nevertheless Im thinking of going for that as long as I dont have to upgrade any other wiring...

Cheers.
