Cruise control

Postby saab463 on Fri, 02 Mar 2007 1:56 +0000

Hi all
Have just ordered a TD SR DC. Should be here early next month. I ordered a SR as the SR5 doesnt reaaly have anything that will be of use to me and the money i save I can piour intoother accessories that will be more useful, however the one thing that I would like to have is cruise control. Anyone here fitted a aftermarket unit and have any feedback they could provide.
Thanks

I have fitted the Auscruise Unit to my V6 SR. It works very well, apparently it is the only system that uses the fly by wire throttle system so it is very close to standard fitment in operation. It also looks standardish.

Check http://www.autron.com.au

I think it cost about $600.

I've got a Command Cruise Control on mine. It is the one Toyota (my dealer anyway) markets as their after market fitment. I got it fitted as part of the purchase through Toyota (though fitted by a Command agent). Mainly did this so it is covered by the same warranty as the vehicle.

Don't know much about the technical side, but I know it works well and looks like it belongs.

Don't remember the price, but between $500 and $600 I think.

I am looking for after market cruise too fo rmy 05 V6. I was quoted $880 by the local Toy dealer. I think this was to be the "fly by wire" set up.

Autron quoted $695. Will be going Autron.

I have the Auscruise on mine... best thing I did for H/way cruising... Ensure the one you fit is fly by wire... I am under the impression that the others will not fit or at least are not compatable... not sure if Auscruise are the only Fly by wire makers. but seeing as the cars throttle is controled that way from the factory it makes sence to use a Cruise Control that utilises that system... PS.. Auscruise also has an additional system that will allow you to change up and down gears with out turning the cruise control off... its a nifty program that I am thinking of getting... my current system cost $850 fitted by an authorised Auscruise fitter....included 12 months warranty.....Cheers TOMUCH

Yes the quote from Autron was $695 fitted by one of their "agents" Problem is when I rang one, he said $1000. Yikes! I really need cruise as I drive in a straight line for 150kliks a day. So looks like I'll just go to my local Toy dealer and pay $880. At least I will be sure on warranty. I think cos they are fly by wire throttle that it has to be a fly by wire cruise.

If you have a Manual, then Toyota will not fit the Cruise Control... It is only optioned for the Auto... a real pain in the butt...I will say that the Auscruise is very good... Try ringing around other fitters... you may be able to cut a deal... I had mine fitted at a place called CarCom... You could give the guys at Auscruise another call and tell them what you are being charged for fittment...he may be able to advise you further...Cheers TOMUCH

The Autron uses the Prado controller box and all just plugs in. I have it fitted to my SR and it works great. Well work the money. Mine cost $1000 but had options included Clutch switch, multiple speed preset for 3 speeds. Bought mine in Brisbane. $599 for unit, steeering wheel mount $89, Clutch release $23, installation $240

Love it. No problems

Cheers

Hi saab463, I had the Auscruise by Autron fitted to my SR, manual. It works brilliantly! When I had a Command Cruise fitted to the work h'lux, silly buggars didn't connect it to the clutch. I's a bloomin' wonder the engine didn't blow up when I powered down to overtake a vehicle! lesson well learnt. Also the Commander has given me nothin' but grief. It's been back to the autos to be replaced twice now. :(
