I thought so I have downloaded a positivly switched diagram and its got that same wire as a 12v+ and I think the original author has got things back to front. The yellow wire off the switch should be a 12v-

Here is the positivly switched example by the same author

These are the best wiring diagrams I have seen in quite a while. They make it quite easy to wire

If anyone can solve this for me I would be stoked.

Ive just about finished installing a set of lightforce spotties up front and also have a custom illuminated rocker fitted.

The switch is working fine and the spotties come on with high beam aswell as having the rocker to turn them off if need be. The problem I am facing is with the illumination of the rocker switch. I have the dash lights illuminating the lower lamp as I have just taken this from the PWR Heat switch on the RHS of the dash. The upper lamp inside the switch, the one that turns on when the switch is on, is proving to be a bit more of a headache. I have powered this switch (pin 8) from the accesories circuit (cig. lighter) and when the accesories are on the system works fine, however if the accesories are not on then the upper lamp has a very pale glow and at time the spotties relay will switch on, not all the time though.

The problem lies in the 12V that is coming from the spotties relay (86) to the switch pin (3) which then backfeeds (pin 8) and the accesories circuit. I figure there is something in the accesories that completes the circuit to ground like a radio or globe. The effect is that the 12V is dropped across the spotties relay, upper illunination lamp and the unknown accesories all in series, which is why the lamp has a very faint glow. The only way I can see that this can be avoided is by having a diode in the supply from the accesoires circuit but since I cant find any information on this problem then I'm starting to think that I have made a mistake.

Make sure the relay is not a change over type.

Make sure terminal 87 and 87 are joined when relay is switched.

Terminal 85 - RED wire with YELLOW trace from back of headlight.
Terminal 86 - RED or BLACK wire from back of headlight.
Terminal 87 – To positive wire on first auxiliary light/s.
Terminal 87 - To positive wire on second auxiliary light/s.
Terminal 30 – From battery positive terminal via a 20 amp fuse.

If you want to put a switch in you will have to put it in the wire that goes from terminal 85 to the RED/YELLOW wire on the back of the head light.

Hi all I have a similar issue to the last post I followed instructions as above with my switch with illumination. All works perfectly apart from the switch is supposed to light up the top part with the Headlights on and the bottom part when the spotties are on however (I believe its cause there negatively switched) even with the car off the bottom part of the switch is always on and only goes off when I turn the spotties on.
If anyone knows how to overcome this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Daveo if Ur spots are on both low nd high, find a wire at the back of the headlights that has power only on high nd tap into that to operate the relay, sounds like u have tapped into the wrong wire to operate the relay that's all.

Thanks for the quick reply the only problem I have is I bought the switches that look like Toyota switches not the rocker ones and they only came with 4 Wires 1 to high beam wire, 2 to relay, 3 to dash lights, 4 to earth.
I just pulled it back out and noticed that there is a spot for a fifth wire if I get the right tab to go into the plug if I add that wire would that be my 12v constant wire or would I have to change things around.
Thanks again

Can anyone spot the problem in figure 2 wiring diagram, or is it just me. This diagram is straight off there web site. I have bought the new led illuminated switches from customrockers, which adds another drama when wiring up your spotlights and trying to get the switch illumination working when the switch is on. Maybe I'm missing something . I have seen a few people have had trouble getting the switch illumination working to indicate the switch is on, which is easily fixed, but when it comes to these new led illuminated switches the polarity of the led becomes a issue as well, in the diagram they have fixed the problem of getting the led to light up but have put the circuits load through the switch. I THINK . Am I reading this wrong or is there a major error in there wiring diagram???

Thought I stuffed it turns out I had a shit earth for spotties

30 to battery positive via fuse
87 to the lights
85 hooked up to dual core wire 1 end hooked up to yellow with red trace on back of rh hl to switch on dash other wire in dual core back to relay
86 hooked up to red on back of rh hl

works perfect.with the dual core at the relay I cut the sheathing open & cut the red wire so 1 end goes on 85 other end goes on 86.that way only got 1 piece of dual core to the back of the light.

I have a secondary fuse box inside my cab. If possible, I'd like to wire up my LED bar so that the only wire coming through my firewall is the positive wire going from the LED bar to pin 87 on my relay.

Has anyone done this before? If so, are the switching wires on the back of the headlight the same colour by the time they come inside the cab? Does anyone have any photos to show where they have spliced into these wires on the inside?

Bump,

I'd also like to know what wire is the high beam wire inside the cab
