How long did your OEM battery last?

Re: how long will factory battery last?

My 2011 SR5 original battery died about 6 months ago, and suddenly. It was good one day, slow the next morning and dead that afternoon. Luckily I have a Projecta dual battery setup with jump start so I got it running and off to get a new battery.

Battery life

Postby wyworrie on Thu, 19 Apr 2018 4:51 +0000

Moderators please move as necessary, sorry I can't find the thread.

Just for a bit of interest. I bought my Hilux in Feb. 08, compliance plate Nov.07.

The original battery just failed today, 10 Yrs 5 Months!! 317,000km. Can anyone tell me of a battery lasting this long? And what brand? Mine is a GS Battery Co. of Thailand.
Best I've had in the past is about 4 yrs and usually 2-3 yrs

What is your experience??

Wow, that's amazing! I bought a second hand 1999 Hilux and had the ute for about seven years before I had to replace the battery. I don't know how long it had been in it before I bought. I thought that was good going. I put it down to the fact the Hilux had no central locking, keyless entry, security, etc.
The more fuel I use, the more fun I have!

Bought a Gen7 2006 V6 new, sold it in 2016 to buy a Gen8. still had the original battery in it and still tested good after all that time. I got 110k out of the original LT tyres too - mind you there was no grip in the wet and the ride was "interesting" at high speed with no load in the tray.

I had a similar experience with my battery. Each winter I thought it was its last, it just kept going. I replaced it last year as I got a replacement for under $100. I've had my Gen7 since 2005.
I might be wrong.

2005 SR Hilux 1KD - SOLD
2009 BMW X5 - destroyed by a hail storm
2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 - SOLD

I must just be unlucky been through 3 cranking batteries and 2 aux batteries in 5ish years. Aux was a warranty job the first time and second one died in 4months so bit the bullet and bought a decent brand name one

My 2011 battery died a few months ago because the alternator was going wild and charged the rig with up to 16 volts....

One thing is for sure, it will last longer than the battery you replace it with, Japanese manufactured batteries seem to be a much better quality than those(even the same brand made somewhere other than Japan)made everywhere else.

One interesting question allied to the original post is how long did your replacement battery last in comparison to OEM? Which brands to buy?

Auto Sparky / battery world can do a load test and tell you how much life is left.
