Adding aditional / external switch for high beam / low beam

First: sorry for bad english, english is not my native language.
Have anyone added an external / additional switch for toggling (?) high beam / low beam?
I think I found some schematics, and if I found the right scematics and understood them right my conclusion is this:
To connect a switch directly in prallell/series with the original switch might be difficult, as the switch is integrated in the combintaion "stalk" (?) at the steering wheel.
An extra switch must change between high beam and low beam, not only switch on/off high beam.
My idea is this:
Add two changing relays (?) on the cable between the stalk switch and the connector. When activated this relay crosses the cable for high beam and low beam.
Disadvantage: this will make the original switch work oposite when the new switch is activated.
Would this work? Any comments?
Bonus questions: Coming from more modern cars I was looking for "light modules" and relays. Is my conclusion correct that there is not even a relays for high beam and low beam on this car? All " main current" from lights are actually going through the light switch on the steering column?
If this is correct. Would we gain any light by adding a separate "power circiut" to both high beam and low beam, with new separate relays. Then sending only "control circiut" for the new relays through the light switch?
