lack of power, sensor references needed

Hi All,

I feel my 2KD-FVT 2015 hilux (188k km's) is SLOW. Being at ~2600 kg, on flat ground a sprint from 0 to 100, pushing it, will take well over 22 seconds.

I have a ODBII dongle installed and use an iOS app "car scanner" to be able to read some values while driving.

my question: what is the highest MAP pressurein kPA i should measure on a stock 2KD-FVT ? I'm getting 221 kPA at max (which corresponds to 1.21 Calculated boost)

Injectors where done at 140k (was smoking like crazy), currently no visible smoke, at-least not from the cab.

have you cleaned the maf censer and filter.

Hi xychix,

I think you have calculated boost ratio rather than boost pressure.

221 kPA is approx 32 PSI . With atmospheric pressure at 14.7 PSI (sea level) you are get 17.3 PSI boost which is more than I was seeing with my 3.0L 1KD-FTV which peaked out at around 14-15 PSI on the scangauge.

As indicated by dave g it would be worth cleaning your MAF sensor and checking you air filter and associated piping for blockage or leaks which may be causing under/over fuelling.

You also said it was previously blowing lots of smoke so it is possible it has partially blocked the catalytic converter (if fitted to your model) which will affect power output due to increased back pressure.

Another area worth looking at (but less likely to be your problem) is cleaning the MAP filter as shown this thread viewtopic.php?f=13&t=20711

Intake System

Symptom and Corresponding Main Fault
Lack of power (no black smoke) due to air filter blockage or crushed or leaking air duct
Black smoke (no lack of power) due to leakage between the turbo and intake manifold

Turbocharger System

Main fault
Air leak in the turbocharged air passage
Turbocharger (turbine, bearing)
Symptoms
Lack of power (when vehicle is starting, under heavy load)
(Black smoke is not emitted when racing while vehicle is stopped)

If there are problems with waste gate valve operation or the valve is stuck closed, the boost pressure increases. When this happens, the fuel injection amount may be reduced to protect the engine, which may result in a lack of power or hesitation.

With the ignition switch ON or during idling, MAP = atmospheric pressure (standard atmospheric pressure = 101 kPa). When the engine speed is about 1500 rpm or more, the turbocharger starts to take effect and MAP becomes higher than atmospheric pressure.

Atmospheric pressure decreases by 1 kPa each time elevation increases by 100 m, and is also affected by the current weather conditions.

found that the position sensor on the turbo was broken. runs back as good as new :)
